PEARLAND, Texas (CBS Local) Muscovy ducks are taking over a town in Texas and residents are now being encouraged to trap or even shoot them in some cases.
The City of Pearland is allowing landowners and homeowners associations (HOAs) to address the ducks as seen fit, and within legal parameters, by the HOA or the landowner.
Pearland is designated as a bird sanctuary city but the Muscovy duck is considered an invasive species from Central and South America and are therefore not protected.
From the reports that weve heard, (the ducks) tend to be aggressive on properties and they push other species out and different things like that, city spokesman Joshua Lee told KTRK.

Its WABBIT season!
Well it sure seems like some invasive species from Ctrl/Sth America are protected
Was visiting the old stomping grounds in New Jersey. We went to my wife’s best friend’s house. Her husband told me about the fox that got into their chicken coop and killed a bunch of them. He said he trapped the fox and took it across the river and released him.
“You released it? I would have shot it.”
“Oh. Well, that is what I did - but I don’t tell folks that - never know who might take offense to it.”
Just like a lot of states, there are good folks there. And lots of liberals that move out into the country and then complain about country ways.
We have the “road-kill law” in TN. One day I was driving on the 4-lane through our tiny town when I saw a man slam on his brakes, jump out of his truck, and start whacking a huge snapping turtle with a machete. I guess if it’s dead on the road it doesn’t matter how it got dead.
I think its a dead heat with Ken H in #6 with the eider pun.
This should apply elsewhere.....
So are rabbits and squirrels. That doesn't seem to slow anybody down on eating THEM.
Yum.

Its even worse here in California. I taught our puppy to play dead by pointing my finger at him and saying BANG!
When I showed his trick off at the local dog park, I just knew some idiot would complain.
Sure enough, the very first time I showed little Cody off doing his new trick, some middle aged guy got his panties all bunched up and twisted Dont you know thats not appropriate, not PC? he asked.
I gave him a steely look of disdain and replied That is EXACTLY why I taught him that.
Yessir...and when we're talking about Coots...that mileage is WAY off.
Nastiest fowl (and foul) meat I've eaten.
Greasy and tough as a piece of shoe leather.
I had a policy of never letting my dogs eat any portion of the ducks I killed, lest they develop a hard mouth (yeah, I know, a myth, but I'd rather be sure), but I did once feed some Coot to one of my best retrievers...and he turned his nose up.
If my dog won't eat it, I ain't gonna!
“Did someone Release the Quacken?”
You quack me up.
(You will receive a “bill” for my new keyboard.)
Let me know how that pellet smoker thing works out. I’ve always been reluctant to go that route.
Muscovy Ducks are mostly black and “male Muscovy Ducks frequently mate with other species”.
...dang.
Rodney Dangerfield.
Ever slipped in a pile of goose shit? Ever screwed with a female goose with goslings? In both cases, it’s an even match. Been there.
Better. They actually have taste.
Try it.
They’re amazing. Pick your flavor of pellets, pour them in, set your temp and walk away. Depending on how hot you need it, check the hopper about every 2 hrs or so, maybe 3.
