It’s all downhill from 27, new research reveals.

At least if you’re a millennial, chronic conditions and diseases start to rear their heads in your late-20s, and from there things continue to deteriorate, according to a new Blue Cross/Blue Shield report.

Millennials as a generation are in overall poorer health than their predecessors, Gen X-ers, with higher rates of depression, hyperactivity, substance misuse, type 2 diabetes and Crohn’s disease, among other chronic conditions.

The report authors warn that the healthcare community needs to be aware that millennials are facing growing and perhaps unprecedented health concerns that could cost them years of life and cost the US economy money and productivity. […]

When the researchers narrowed their focus to older millennials, ages 34-36, they found higher rates of nearly all of the top 10 most common conditions than were seen in generation X at the same ages — despite the fact that 83 percent of millennials think they are in “good” or “excellent” health. …

So many factors play into this. Lack of physical activity must be a key one. Decline in physical education....specialization in single sports....lack of old-fashioned play time in back yards, neighborhoods and parks)....kids chauffeured everywhere instead of walking or biking....kids no longer doing physical chores like mowing grass, raking leaves, shoveling snow, or even taking out the trash.

That’s what a lack of physical exercise will do, unfortunately.

I made it to 70 (my dad said I wouldn’t make it to 30...LOL)

I “feel” like I’m 50 and if it wasn’t for a prosthetic leg, I think I could do what I did in my 40’s and 50’s...

My wife says I look 50...(she might be biased)....

“Mom, I’m going out to play.”

Had a flashback dream a few weeks ago, back riding my bike in the Dallas suburbs in the 60s, still a farm here and there - gone all day in 90 degree heat, 200 year old oaks to climb, creeks and ponds to jump in and cool off - what great days.

I have noticed the work ethic amongst younger workers is nowhere near what it was when i was their age.

Take sick days at the drop of a hat and are ready to leave work 20 minutes ahead of time..................

Up until the 60’s humans have always “touched” the ground. In the 60’s rubber shoes were invented whereas before that all shoes were conductive (leather pretty much). We MUST touch the earth to have any chance at holistic harmony.

Nonsense. I don’t know a single person whose parents or grandparents grew up on a farm.

***Environmental toxins***

Say what? WE were raised in the days of DDT, Dioxins, PCBs, leaded gasoline, leaded paint, and we are still doing well at 72!

Who knew that hanging out in moms basement all day playing video games, drinking Mountain dew and eating Doritos by the bag would be unhealthy?

Weird

And we’ve been warned for years not to east highly processed foods. How much more processing can that soy take?

And why are fake foods made to taste like MEAT! If I want to taste meat I will eat MEAT!

And I’m only 72 years old and have all my teeth.

Yep...we built a ball field in a farmer’s field, built rafts to float down streams, built tree forts, explored the forests all around (one time found a still-warm campfire with a HUGE Bowie style knife in the camp - scared us to DEATH!), crawled through old barns with treasure rooms of old stuff stored there, skateboarded down the steep hills at the Cornell Campus (about 1963 mind you - primitive skateboards back then!), catching fireflies, you name it! Great days indeed.

When we were kids we played outside until dark. We ran, we fell, we climbed, we fought. We thrived, and are now old. What do kids do today? Stare at a freaking screen! No wonder they are sick. What do people expect? Humans are meant to move.

Wait till all the Boomers, and the people who have been keeping the lights on for decades are GONE.

THAT is the cold shower they are all facing. :)

Someone will have to teach them about ‘priorities’ and how to MAKE MONEY

Most of the shift away from farms came long before Millennials’ parents were growing up.

Not on Medicare yet?

I was let go at Hughes Aircraft in ‘89, and my wife and I had no health insurance until we each got Medicare.

I started Social Security a few months before I turned 66, back in 2012.

My wife is older and retired earlier at 62.

Ah, the joys of being self employed. Still at it, making things happen.
