Charlotte Riley, who teaches history at the University of Southampton, penned an interesting op-ed in the New Statesmen last month where she literally suggested standing in the way of busy males on their morning commute to help resist perceived patriarchy in society. According to Riley, such tactics are necessary because males have naturally been raised to believe they have a right to occupy space. The point is that men have been socialised, for their entire lives, to take up space. Men who would never express these thoughts out loud have nevertheless been brought up to believe that their right to occupy space takes precedent over anyone elses right to be there, complains Riley. They spread their legs on tubes and trains, they bellow across coffee shops and guffaw in pubs, and they never, ever give way. While Rileys hatred of males is unique in that she chooses to hide her contempt in the form of refusing to move over at the train station, she also admits that reclaiming some of her space helps her to question potential assumptions that might be standing in the way of her success.
Ah, yes, another bitter, feminist lesbian academic, who will go through life angry, abrasive, and accomplishing nothing else other than to make an inconvenient ass of herself.
I grew up in the South and have found the overwhelming majority of men courteous and deferential to women in public spaces all throughout my life including the present day. Almost all men I encounter open doors for women and allow them to proceed first (regular doors and elevator doors).
Thank you, gentlemen! I respect your goodwill towards woman.
Is she complaining that men think they have a right to exist? I did not read past the first couple of lines. She can't salvage that first couple no matter how she contorts.
A novel excuse for just being rude.
Hope she doesn’t get knocked on her dumbass by accident.
Her solution is to act like those she despises.
Another candidate for the looney farm.
Men would have reached that point decades ago, if they could think beyond finding a warm, wet spot to stick it into. Feminists like her have figured out they can get away with just about anything because of this.
When will it change? That's up to men.
Repeal the 19th!
She looks Irish. That name goes with that, too. I assume it is hermaiden name. How could she have a husband?
I asked her this Question; what would you do if our present civilization falls and you are a survivor.
You are wandering about and you run across village, well organized and with plentiful supplies. The leader, a 6'4
“ Male with rippling muscles says in order to join you have to put up with an accepting male or leave. his choice
What would you do.
Just reverse it, have a white male describe how he intentionally “inconveniences” women on their commute and you would hear him called every name in the book.
It is very sad when society provides a podium for the free range mentally ill.
Ignore her.
Penis envy.
The 19th Amendment is a biological strike against survival of the nation.
Fifty years ago America already ignored history.
Women put Hitler’s Government in power.
i know my circle is small, but i don’t know 1 woman like this....not 1.
Dear f*cked-up piece of $hit. You are making statements that you intend to apply to ALL men. By that action, you are wrong and biased.
You said that “ALL” men do some things. Obviously not, you empty-headed man-hating hysteric.
You got equal rights, and still you failed. You blame your failures on men. Failed minorities blame their failures on Whites. Failed bearded savages blame their failures on Christians and Jews. Failed gays blame their failures on normal people. And so on.
. Keep it up there is only so much we can take
There, I’ve said it. I’m an Alan Alda feminist.
