Charlotte Riley, who teaches history at the University of Southampton, penned an interesting op-ed in the New Statesmen last month where she literally suggested standing in the way of busy males on their morning commute to help resist perceived patriarchy in society. According to Riley, such tactics are necessary because males have naturally been raised to believe they have a right to occupy space. The point is that men have been socialised, for their entire lives, to take up space. Men who would never express these thoughts out loud have nevertheless been brought up to believe that their right to occupy space takes precedent over anyone elses right to be there, complains Riley. They spread their legs on tubes and trains, they bellow across coffee shops and guffaw in pubs, and they never, ever give way. While Rileys hatred of males is unique in that she chooses to hide her contempt in the form of refusing to move over at the train station, she also admits that reclaiming some of her space helps her to question potential assumptions that might be standing in the way of her success.
Might go something like this...”my husband was making his way to the office, to keep a roof over our head and enough food while I’m at home with our newborn. He was blocked by a person that absolutely refused to give him the right of way. By the time he got around them, he had missed his stop and was late to a very important meeting that it was required that he attend. We aren’t sure if he will be kept on as he just recently started with a new firm...” These things tend to have a ripple impact, don’t assume you are being kept down when others are treading water.
And then when there’s a lot of productivity and money, then she and women just like her blame their men for not bringing enough money home. It must be really nice to be able to blame all your problems on somebody else.
Grow up, Charlotte Riley! Thats such a childish thing to do.
Ugly, bitter, god hating woman jealous of beautiful, god loving and successful women who are happy with a great man.
She’s from England. Hopefully she doesn’t vote in our elections, though I can’t be sure my hopeful statement is true. 8>)
As a woman myself; neither can I.
If a woman does that to me in public, I’m going to assume that she’s trying to be a distraction so that a guy can blindside me in a strong-arm robbery attempt. End result: she’s going to hit the ground hard, then I’m going to look around for an accomplice—and that’s exactly what I’ll tell the cops if it comes to that. If she thinks she’s going to block my way, she’d better have a lot of help.
So do I!
I wouldnt not even on a slow rainy day
YEP. I’m going to assume that any woman doing that is working with somebody else in a strong-arm robbery attempt. After I quickly drop her, I’ll be looking for an accomplice. A woman doing this on the street is not smart.
This intellectual buffoon is somehow teaching.
“I was taught to step aside for ladies. Heck, I was even taught to hold a door open for women.”
I waa going to say that one thing I noticed when we moved to Tennessee, is how polite and respectful men are to women. Even the teenage boys. We moved here from CA, so it was a huge contrast.
Wasn’t invited to her high school prom....
She’s got nothing more than a make-work job.
My wife and I take daily walks at the mall. On weekdays we walk in the afternoon when the mall has enough customers so that right-of-way situations occur. Almost everyone moves over about half way so that both people can walk past each other. The only ones I notice who don’t are very young kids, black men, and people glued to their phones. I figure the kids just don’t yet understand what’s going on while the black men feel that it would be degrading to make way (or half way) for anybody else. The phone addicts I don’t think I’ll ever understand.
So, she wants women to pretend they’re traffic cones.
ok
Women and men do a lot to get attention....y’know...get busy and replenish the world...cat on a hot tin roof....estrogen oozin’ out of her pores...watch a female cat in heat...same thing...
[ She should be sterilized. ]
Just giver her a cat and by the time she is 70 they ( a good dozen or so she will then own ) will clean up her corpse when she dies in her sleep.
Speaking of obnoxious behavior, some women have the shrillest laughs. I was eating in a diner with a group of women in the next booth recently. One of them let loose this laugh that rattled the table and made me drop my fork. But generally speaking, I like women. I am not a woman hater because some of them are loud and obnoxious in public.
When someone’s child is polite to me, I always mention that to the parent. I know the effort they’ve put into that result, and I want to acknowledge it. I have to admit, it gives me a little thrill to be treated respectfully.
