I totally disagree with your premise if it is primarily based on not giving documents over. Very likely there are still some bad guys in the FBI but the big uns have been fired/placed in useless cubicles but mostly gone. It has been said many times including by good guys in the FBI that most of the lower echelon are decent.
Your premise also posits that Sessions, Wray and others such as Whitaker and Barr are feebly helpless to do anything about the FBI bad guys and that Trump either doesn’t know or similarly helpless. I cannot agree with these.

That’s why everything I write here is chaff.
Removing any of the top players (Rosey, Muley, Sessions, Wray, etc.) regardless of hat color would have ^immediately^ brought impeachment charges (obstruction of justice) on the President. This, in turn, would have created a 2 front war.
How’d that work out for the Axis in 1945?
