Feb. 19 (UPI) -- A nutrient once thought to be healthy if eaten in abundance may actually cut life short, a new study says.
A low-protein, high-carbohydrate diet has been linked to living longer and maintaining brain health, according to a study published this month in Current Biology.
Eating too much protein, Proud says, can speed up protein synthesis, which quickly causes a build-up of "faulty protein" -- leading to a likelihood of early death. The researchers tested this theory by feeding high protein diets to fruit flies and worms.
"Since this link also operates in humans, our findings show how lower protein consumption could promote longevity in people," Proud said.
However, Proud not only recommends eating less protein but also more carbohydrates, which many have long-associated with an unhealthy diet.
"Carbohydrates get a lot of bad press, especially in relation to dieting, but the key is balance and knowing the difference between 'good' carbs and 'bad' carbs," Proud said.

My muscle mass is twice the average 63 yr old man. My resting heart rate is 59-60. That cannot be achieved, or sustained, on a carb-centric diet that is low protein. ]

Greek yogurt from Dannon or generic is much much better.
Always follow the rule: for every 10 calories you should have at LEAST 1 g of protein.
Some of the generic bran greek yogurt is sooooo much better than regular yogurt

too many people think that Yay I can eat meat, but consuming more than 2,000 calories of meat a day is just as bad as eating more than 2,000 calories of doughnuts or twinkies.
100-120g of protein per day no more than 2000 calories per day is a good guideline.
[ Ha!!! My grandmother used to make yogurt in the 60s...no sugar. We loved it. Nowadays, the yogurt on the market is just awful, so full of sugar. ]

If you only ate 1,200 calories of doughnuts per day, you would lose weight, your body would soon become deficient in certain nutrients for sure.
The brain needs healthy fats and burns 20% of the glucose. Your heart and by extension your digestive tract need the fiber. Just don’t go crazy. My diet these days has a lot more vegetables than it used to, but you can’t beat a nice steak. Figure out your own mix of plant and animal. Your blood work will confirm or refute your choices.

This study is right on the heals of the Green New Deal and it’s limitation on Cow Farts. It is flat out manure. Of course, when you eat higher protein, you must use that protein through movement and exercise. Same goes for carbs. When you eat too much protein, you negatively effect Mtor. Same goes for eating too many Carbs. The most prudent method of eating is moderate protein, based on activity, moderate to low starch and sugar carbohydrate, based on activity and higher variety of fats, including saturated without trans fats and minimal high Omega 6 vegetable oils.
If I recall, the term "Mediterranean diet" was first coined on 60 Minutes. So that right there should have had people question the legitimacy of it as that long-running news-magazine show was one of the most egregious examples of biased "reporting" as well as a regular practitioner of sloppy third-rate muck-raking journalism.
The big problem with the hype over the Mediterranean diet is that people assumed that everything those Europeans did in that diet was healthy. Now obviously some elements of that diet ARE healthy but blindly adopting every element of that diet is as foolish as every NFL team mimicking exactly how the New England Patriots practice and prepare for games because they won a bunch of Super Bowls. The key to your NFL team becoming as good at the Patriots is to adopt "best practices" but seek to find improvement in other areas and not just assume that the Patriots are 100% perfect in everything they do.
So nothing wrong with adopting "best practices" of the Mediterranean Diet but not everything they do in that diet is perfect. I could do without all the bread and pasta for example. Could be that those Europeans get away with eating a lot of bread and pasta because they do a lot of other things right but there is still much room for improvement.
I’ve always wondered why DD has such unhealthy slop. I need visuals to stay on a healthy diet. I look at DD and think of pigs being fattened for slaughter. It’s a shame; their coffee is pretty good.

A varied diet is a healthy diet. I have felt so much better since I started regularly including a variety of veg, nuts, and fruit along with a reasonable amount of meat. I also started mini fasts, eating one meal a day. That works for me.
I’m sipping one of their iced coffees now,black,no sugar-—and delicious.
The donuts in the case are actually gag inducing,covered with icing and sprinkles,and the jelly donuts have virtually no jelly in them.
Thank heaven there are still some independents still around.

Within a few years of that campaign, yogurt became a staple item in the dairy section and began occupying over triple the shelf space it did before.
The biggest issue with yogurt today (and Dannon is a big part of that problem) is that in their quest to pitch yogurt as a "heart healthy" low-fat product, they added an incredible amount of sugar. To the point where most supermarket yogurts are no healthier than an ice cream sundae. To get healthy yogurts, you have to look for a high fat content (whole cream) and no added sugar. The cream layer on top (or mixed in) are the best with the probiotics (live cultures). Stay away from all "fruit on bottom" yogurts. I like to add into my yogurt fresh blueberries, blackberries or strawberries. You can buy the frozen kind too if you are concerned about the berries going bad.
