Astronomers have discovered a massive proto-supercluster of galaxies -- bigger than even one million billion Suns.
Scientists have called the ancient colossal structure Hyperion, the European Southern Observatory announced Wednesday. It is reported to have appeared just 2.3 billion years after the Big Bang, which took place about 13.7 billion years ago. The cluster's namesake is one of 12 titans born to the gods Gaia and Uranus in Greek mythology.

Just like with the “intersectional femenisims studies” from earlier today, they’re just making stuff up now.
Yep down right Holy
If they can miss this, why are they need dark matter to add mass for their cosmological models?
That first book was brilliant, the Canterbury Tales as set to sci-fi. He should have stuck with more Jack Vance emulation after the first book and less sex and horror. Although the horror was done pretty good, which makes sense as it was Simmons. Of course that is from a 10+ year recollection of reading it all.

One million billion suns..... I’m having trouble really imagining that ....
In the observable universe there are estimated to be 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 (one billion trillion) stars. It is difficult to begin to grasp that....
God is good. And very prolific. I picked up a milk weed pod on a walk today and opened it up. The scientific precision of the seeds in the pod were amazing. Perfectly aligned and beautiful. He is the ultimate artist and creator.
I don't understand. If Hyperion is the oldest, and given the outward velocity expansion of space towards infinity, why would younger superclusters closer to us have had more time to gather matter? Wouldn't they have less time and less matter? What am I missing?
A little bit of nasty SARC coming up here:

#28 re “What am I missing”?
The NEW MATH! It doesn’t make any sense either.
Dan Simmons’ Hyperion books are excellent.
HA HA HA good one Hyperion sewage Treatment Plant , I actually worked there in the 00’s doing concrete construction
fascinating link, however the pragmatic side of my brain often wonders how accurate is the interpretation of data, it tends to have a slight science fiction flavoring
LOL !
Thanks fieldmarshaldj.
Good article. Interesting.
You are missing that BigBang belongs with FlatEarth and Heliocentrism. The theory is shot full of holes.
AMEN ... hear here!
Outstanding series of books.
