De Blasio wants to scrap admissions testing for elite high schools

Mayor de Blasio unveiled a plan Saturday to boost black and Latino enrollment at the city’s eight specialized high schools — and he wants to scrap admissions tests outright.

In an op-ed for education-news site Chalkbeat, de Blasio announced that 20 percent of seats at those eight schools would be reserved for low-income applicants.

Kids in the Department of Education’s Discovery Program who score just below the admissions cut-off would be given one of those saved seats, according to the plan.

De Blasio said he will fight to eventually replace the single-test system with new admissions criteria based on middle-school class rank and state test scores.

One would think think that changing the rules to admit less qualified students because the effect would benefit blacks and Latinos would be seen as racist.

Are Libs truly blind to this?

Actually I don’t think so. Their goal has nothing to do with educating blacks and Latinos (they remain opposed to that) it is all about appearances and votes.

And don’t think that a highly educated black and Latino population would help the Dems. I don’t believe that for a second and neither do the Dems.

The NY Giants and the NY Jets should do the same thing. Scrap try outs. Set aside 20% of starting positions for people who are out of shape and have never played football.

The noncompetitive NFL recruiting results will be the same as bringing unprepared students into elite and competitive high schools - those who are unprepared will be crushed. I won’t see it in either case, since I’m not in their schools, and I won’t be watching the NFL this year.

So, lowering the minimum score for admission wouldn’t work, because some white students might have better scores and, thus, disrupt the admissions of lower-scoring hispanics and blacks.

What does income have to do with it? Are only hispanics and blacks ‘poor’?

This whole ‘plan’ is reeks.

One could assume that the overall academics would have to be lowered to accommodate those students who did not earn a high enough score.

There, the result — which is probably what De Blasio intends — would reduce the ‘elite’ status to just another school.

Placing unprepared high school students in an elite environment is a dumb move.

I saw a recent study that said the reason so many blacks never complete college is because affirmative action admissions policies place them in schools where they are competing against the best Asian and White students. This policy dooms the blacks to frustration and failure before they even start.

The most successful black graduation rate is for blacks who attend traditional Negro colleges.

I agree. They should be enrolled in the same advanced placement classes as the Ashkenazic students with IQs of 140.

So if i was a less gifted minority i can take a seat away from a more gifted caucasian.

I think if we made it mandatory that politicians and their families could only hire or go to these folks when they need care or services, that would be fine.
