DETROIT (WWJ) Would you like to lose weight, have more energy, better health? Then stop eating cheese.
Thats according to Dr. Neal Barnard, whos down on dairy.
Barnard says while Americans seem to have a love affair with cheese, its more of an unhealthy addiction. He makes his case in his book The Cheese Trap.
I think its addicting; and I dont use the addicting word lightly, he told WWJs Dr. Deanna Lites. There are actually opiate chemicals in it that attach to the very same brain receptors as other opiates, and Im going to argue that its probably the biggest reason that were seeing kids gain weight these days.
Barnard say that while weve been told that dairy does a body good, the truth is that cheese can be dangerous. Loaded with calories, fat and cholesterol, he says cheese can make you gain weight and lead to a host of health problems like high blood pressure and arthritis.
In The Cheese Trap, Barnard presents a plant-based diet program along with recipes and tips he claims will help you fight cravings for everything from pizza to ice cream to cheesecake and break free from your addiction to cheese.
According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the average American consumes 35 pounds of cheese a year.
The UCLA School of Public Health has a credit at the end of that PSA...

Yes, in Europe, Cheese is a dessert..................
Give up cheese?!?
Dear Dr.,
Go **** yourself
Love,
Awesome people
Go low carb and eat all you want.
Carbs and Omega-6 fats are “pro-inflammatory.”
That is food pron.
My wife loves that nasty Brie so I buy it for her. I’m more of a regular cheese guy.
I dig a wide range of cheeses, and I’ll eat just about any kind of cheese.
In that case I want some cheese fentanyl.
I’ve been on a high protein, lo carb diet for several years. While I don’t eat grotesque amounts of dairy, cheese and whole milk are a regular part of my diet, and based on casual observation, my height and weight are probably more healthily proportioned than 80-90% of men my age.
...from my cold, dead hands!
That and no doubt lots of Domino’s...
Oxy-Cheddar if you please................
I love cheese. And it has protein. Good for you!
“All things in moderation.”
Including moderation.

Finest in the district, sir.
We had a family reunion in Western NY last weekend. In the car coming back we had stocked up on Cuba Extra Sharp White Cheddar (Cuba, NY). (And Weber’s mustard and Angelica salt-rising bread.) Happy... happy... happy.
And I’ve noticed all the kids in our little town now putt around on little scooters or golf carts. Whereas we had to walk or ride our bicycles if we wanted to visit our friends.
Take heart in the deepening gloom
That your dog is finally getting enough cheese.
