TV viewers could either laugh or cry at how lopsided the AFC and NFC championship games were Sunday, and they chose to laugh mostly at the expense of poor Phil Simms of CBS Sports.
Simms and, to a lesser extent, play-by-play partner Jim Nantz, have become popular targets on social media in recent years.

Sims is awful. I don't understand how he is the #1 NFL analyst for CBS. During the AFC Championship game Nantz asked him a question about what adjustments a team should make and there was this silence for several seconds before Sims said something totally stupid.

He’s the #1 analyst because he refused to say the word “Redskins” during an NFL broadcast featuring the NFL team from Washington, DC. Instead of being fired on the spot, as most broadcasters would be, he became the Golden Boy. That, and he was on a Giants Superbowl team that won because of Lawrence Taylor.

I’ve never liked Sims in a broadcasting role. They should sack him and hire Payton.

Yeah, but Simms won’t say “Redskins” so he’s cool!

Showtime pairs him up with Boomer Esiason for a double-dose of awful.

Boomer Sharpe and Sims.......That would be something.....

Simms was the #1 for CBS long before the Skins name became a manufactured issue. And plenty of others won’t say it either. I enjoy him, he’s funny, not intentionally but funny is funny.

I am very put off by his habit of repeating in words what my wife and I just witnessed for ourselves...IOW, what good is he as an analyst? Other broadcasters provide much better explanations of play calling strategy and analysis as the game moves along.
..hate for him to lose his gig though..!

Across the network are the other 2 commentators — Buck and Aikman.
They did have a difficult job trying to make the playoff game sound more exciting that it was, but I finally had to mute their incessant chatter.

Honestly I would enjoy the games more if the color commentators only spoke if they had something interesting to say, like once a quarter. I don’t really need them to point out that Rodgers’ game is off or Brady is badass. I can figure that stuff out on my own. They ruin the broadcast with their mindless jabbering.

If he hates the Redskins (I sort of do) I get it. I’m sure they almost broke his neck many times. If he wants to bring his personal baggage into a professional duty, he needs to go elsewhere. I am sure if I wrote material and excluded key info I would be working elsewhere. Maybe that’s a big reason why he’s getting flack on social media.

I'm not saying he should refuse to say Redskins, just that I don't believe he is avoiding saying it for glory or job security. If he was concerned about network job security, he wouldn't have donated time and his name for pro-life videos and causes.

Your point is correct. Maybe he can move to college ball. I see your point. If he can't even read the scores around the league properly or discuss a division or wild card scramble, much less CALL a Redskins game, he's not really doing his job.
I once hired a lefty non-believer to do voice work on a Catholic audiobook. I only asked him if he was willing to read every word properly, and as it is written and to follow my directions for same. He said yes, and he did. Afterwards we argued about politics.

Across the network are the other 2 commentators Buck and Aikman.I have never cared for Aikman in the booth. I was a big Cowboys fan in the 90's and loved watching him play in those years. But I think he sucks as an announcer. He says the most obvious things that any doofus off the street could come up with. And he tries so hard to not come off like a homie when Dallas plays that he trips over himself praising the non-Dallas team du jour.

Sims’ son is also on that show. He’s a major-league Leftist whacko.
