He’s the #1 analyst because he refused to say the word “Redskins” during an NFL broadcast featuring the NFL team from Washington, DC. Instead of being fired on the spot, as most broadcasters would be, he became the Golden Boy. That, and he was on a Giants Superbowl team that won because of Lawrence Taylor.
I’ve never liked Sims in a broadcasting role. They should sack him and hire Payton.
Yeah, but Simms won’t say “Redskins” so he’s cool!
Showtime pairs him up with Boomer Esiason for a double-dose of awful.
..hate for him to lose his gig though..!
Across the network are the other 2 commentators — Buck and Aikman.
They did have a difficult job trying to make the playoff game sound more exciting that it was, but I finally had to mute their incessant chatter.
Honestly I would enjoy the games more if the color commentators only spoke if they had something interesting to say, like once a quarter. I don’t really need them to point out that Rodgers’ game is off or Brady is badass. I can figure that stuff out on my own. They ruin the broadcast with their mindless jabbering.
the “I’m confused” moment was dumb. There was no fumble.
Side note: It appears now that a number of media outlets just report on what social media is saying.
Simms is the worst (yet a distant second to Berman). Anything beyond a second sentence is delivered on LOUD! in his annoying accent (and I love Southern and Western accents).
You know who I can’t stand?

Phil Simms is not very popular in his hometown of Louisville, Kentucky, either. Everyone I know who encountered him here in town says he is a jerk. And then a few years ago his younger son, Matt, was here at the University of Louisville for literally a month and a half. He got suspended for four games for violating team rules, right after he got here. Then he saw action in two games, and transferred out.
You gotta wonder why a Super Bowl-winning quarterback gets cut the next year and nobody picks him up. There’s a stink on Simms; I just can’t identify it.
The people I watch big football games with are not huge fans and so we compromise by turning down the sound and playing music while the game is on. I don’t miss the commentary one bit.
I hate watching games not hosted by Fox. CBS is the worst, production-wise.
