Rust remover, anyone? Or maybe a dash of cement with your meal?
Swapping your full-fat Coke for a diet alternative might seem like the sensible, healthy thing to do. But think again.
Last week, experts at Imperial College, London claimed sugar-free drinks wont help you lose weight or avoid Type-2 diabetes.
In fact, they could stimulate your appetite and make you gain weight.
And worse, some sugar-free soda has ingredients you wouldnt usually dream of consuming chemicals found in rust remover, steel cleaner, and cement, albeit in tiny quantities.
They also have ingredients that in high doses have been linked to DNA damage, hyperactivity, and bone fractures.
Dr. Marilyn Glenville, author of The Natural Alternative To Sugar, says: We dont know the chemical cocktail effect of these ingredients.
Some negatively affect health. Women and girls who regularly drink these drinks increase their risk of osteoporosis in later life.
There is also a lot of research showing artificially sweetened drinks promote weight gain and affect gut bacteria levels.

I drink 4-7 diet dr peppers every day
In the can
Plastic has to be ice cold
I really did feel honored to meet him. He was a real gent, from a bygone, better American era.
I think if this was a serious problem people would have been dropping dead for many years. The medical community would have figured it out. I might drink one Diet Coke a day sometimes I don’t even do that. But you have reminded me, I’m going to get one.
“Well, one of them is water.”
Water kills. 100% of ALL human beings that have died on this planet have consumed water.
Again, let that fact set in ... every person that has walked this earth and died drank water.
It must be banned.
Krypton? This is bad for Superman.
my hero!!!!
And I bet you live a nice long time!!
Not a fan of plastic myself.
For some reason, I LOVE McD’s diet coke in the paper cup.
But only the first 10 minutes, the it tastes like cough meds :)
My favorite is root beer EASY 4 a day diet.
Wow. Wonder what it does to us.
;)
Let’s hope he doesn’t walk into a bar and order a krypton cocktail or something.
Very cool story!
Coffee contains the killer chemical dihydrogen Monoxide....
And it is necessary component of bread, which we all know is linked to rapes, murder and loud talking on phones in public.
Agreeded. I drink diet drinks not for weight control nor diabetes. I have neither. The sugared drinks taste too sweet and I do not like them. If I am drinking less calories, ok. That is not the objective.
Wonderful story.
Someday this health nut will be lying in a hospital dying of absolutely nothing.
I’m getting old & rusty. Maybe diet soda is just what I need to clean out some of the years of rust buildup and allow me to live longer!
You haven't been paying attention. Local governments are gearing up to tax sodas, but they don't want to make the mistake of limiting it to sugary drinks like New York did. No, they need to include diet sodas. To do it they first have to convince a bunch of hand wringing worry warts that it's killing us, why it may be worse than tobacco! Now triple the price and govt takes two thirds! Problem solved, drink up. In fact, have a couple extra each day now that we've fixed it.
I thought Coke WAS an excellent rust remover.
What a great memory to have, and I love the way you told it. I could picture him at the door!
That must have been Gracie Allen who first greeted you.
