It almost sounds Trump has made a prior deal with Romney. No telling what the payoff was. But even so agreements can be renegotiated.
From what I can tell an apology from Romney will settle things down a bit with many of Trumps supporters but the feeling I am getting as I read what people say it will not remedy the original problem they had with Romney. Be it an Evangelical Mormon thing or the feeling he is not a true conservative, whatever it may be and whether it is right or wrong this pick will cause a drop off in support for Trump. Whether it is temporary or permanent depends on Trump keeping many of his campaign promises.
I have to wonder why Trump is willing to spend some of his political capital on Romney, normally party unification is done before an election, but hopefully there is a good reason for it.
So far his choices have not overly upset or are acceptable to his supporters. If Romney was given a lesser role in the cabinet he may be acceptable as well. For me I still see Bob Corker the best available candidate for the position.
If Trump pardons him or selects him I would be disappointed.
Petreus broke the law. He could have been convicted of higher crimes. He isn’t deserving of a pardon at this point. Maybe years down the road.
He should stay in private business.
Hopefully the rumors of him going to state are false. It would be a terrible political choice that isn’t worth the headaches it would cause.
Romney is indeed all of that, which is why I dislike him. However if appointed, he will work for his Boss, the POTUS. Trump can fire him if he misbehaves.
Doesn’t he have the nick name Betrayus? I can’t recall why.
I don’t think there is any deal.
Romney has been viciously speaking out against Trump.
Maybe Trump is considering forgiving him for that, but if there had been a deal, Romney clearly violated it, so he can’t expect forgiveness now.
Correct, nothing. Which is why we elected deal maker par excellence, Donald J Trump.
No. Jeb made one with Romney.
no romney for anything. hes moldy toast.
So what kind of deal are you imagining? You think Trump agreed to let Romney do everything in his power to subvert his campaign against Hillary in exchange for what? If you hate Trump/are a NeverTrumper, I guess you can imagine anything whether it makes logical sense or not.
Corker, are you kidding? That deceptive, give Obama whatever he wants, reverse Constitution loving, RINO? No way.
Also no amount of words of apology from Mitt will help me accept him any better. He’s a liar. Corker is a Romney clone, an establishment RINO who thinks he can fool people with his deceptions. We’ve already had enough of a State Department that spends it time thinking up ways to lie to its own people.
I think Trump purposely floated Romney’s name knowing there would be a conservative backlash.
This allows Trump to consider him for a very high post, but also gives him the legroom to appoint him to something meaningful and still nod to Romney’s power in the GOPe universe which still makes up quite a bit of Congress.
One way or another, there’s needs to be some negotiation to get Trump’s larger jobs, immigration, and trade legislation passed.
With Trump, you can be certain there’s a bigger strategy, probably 10 steps ahead of what most of us are thinking.
Trump Tweeted praising Chuck Schumer last week. It’s no stretch to believe he might like Romney.
After all, Trump endorsed Romney in 2012 on February 2nd, after only 4 states had voted.

there are a lot of really bad picks
Which is why we elected any Republican President.
How is a GOP Congress supposed to do any of the things you outline when there is a Democrat President in place to veto it?
My mother grew up in northwestern Oklahoma during the tail-end of the depression. Along with cattle and cotton and other things, her family raised turkeys. Her folks didn’t have a lot.
She said the turkeys would often surround a rattlesnake, she supposed to protect the chicks but they did it all the time, even when the little ones weren’t around.
Before she got there with a hoe, snakes might kill one or two of the gobblers. They never seemed to learn. They formed a circle around it, gobbled at it and wouldn’t leave it alone.
Trump has killed more snakes than we collectively could shake a hoe at. Let’s not be turkeys. Chill FRiend Magill.
Who is spreading that rumor?
Conway said they were going to have a Democrat in the cabinet. There are only a handful that people could deal with. Jim Webb, Petraeus and Tulsi from Hawaii (All sleeper picks for SOS)
Name some, I haven’t heard many. For me, Jindal would be tops. Hilarious how this two term governor hasn’t been mentioned but Romney has (failed governor). Jindal is a conservative and also was “anti-Trump” and had some zingers that the media didn’t pay much attention to (because typically they choose who we should care about). Huck, Newt, Perry. All, to me, much better than Mittens
Am I the only one who has noticed this?

How could Petraeus endorse and vote for Hillary as she got away with a lot more than Petraeus did and suffered no consequence. I’d have expected him to want to send her to jail personally.
He tried to organize the electoral votes in Utah to deny them to Trump
He continued behind the scenes to get electoral votes from Trump
When that failed he tried to get some no-name to run on an independent ticket to deny Utah to Trump.
Finally gave a speech totally critical of Trump...even though Trump supported his earlier campaign.
An apology for one of the above might just work...but the whole load is just beyond the pale.
Romney is a snake...and should be nowhere near any position in a Trump administration.
Romney butting in for the OH primary could’ve cost Trump the nomination. It was Romney’s henchmen who tried the coups, both before the nomination and that stunt to try to get Trump to step down before the election. “I’m sorry” just doesn’t cut it.
