It almost sounds Trump has made a prior deal with Romney. No telling what the payoff was. But even so agreements can be renegotiated.
From what I can tell an apology from Romney will settle things down a bit with many of Trumps supporters but the feeling I am getting as I read what people say it will not remedy the original problem they had with Romney. Be it an Evangelical Mormon thing or the feeling he is not a true conservative, whatever it may be and whether it is right or wrong this pick will cause a drop off in support for Trump. Whether it is temporary or permanent depends on Trump keeping many of his campaign promises.
I have to wonder why Trump is willing to spend some of his political capital on Romney, normally party unification is done before an election, but hopefully there is a good reason for it.
So far his choices have not overly upset or are acceptable to his supporters. If Romney was given a lesser role in the cabinet he may be acceptable as well. For me I still see Bob Corker the best available candidate for the position.
Did Trump and Romney make a deal prior to the election?
No
I can’t see any reason why it would have been necessary for The Donald to have made a deal with Romney before the election.
The rumor now is that David Petraeus will be the Secretary of State.
Romney is for Obamacare, globalism, interventionism, and open borders. He is the antithesis of everything I voted for.
Why is it that there is Trump criticism 24/7? It is becoming very tiresome.
Where did you hear that rumor?
Petraeus? Sicking. He was a total democrat and endorsed Hillary.
So they think Trump and Romney made a deal such that if Romney calls him a fraud Trump will give him the SoS job?
My hope is that Romney gives his public apology and then Trump gives the job to someone else.
I’m not in favor of Romney, but IMO Petreus would be the worst pick ever.
Trump spent a year bashing Hillary regarding the emails and her handling classified intel. No way he can now bring in someone that (no matter how qualified) plea dealed to a misdemeanor charge of mishandling classified intel. It would reek of utter hypocrisy as well as being just plain dumb politics.
There are many choices available other than Petreus or Romney.
Bob Corker is the worst available option, right below Mitt Romney and he’s below everyone else, including the janitor at Foggy Bottom.
There might have been a threat from Romney to run as an independent instead of McMullin. Romney could have used that as leverage in a deal.
Will Petraeus need to be pardoned before he can take the job?
>> Trump needs ALL of the republicans in congress and all the governors to get his agenda through. Note that GOP has only a slim majority in Senate and many of the house reps are loyal to the GOPe
>> Gov’s Haley and Romney represent the GOPe. Trump knows how to make deals and get things accomplished. That is more productive than hardline purist strategy which gets nothing done.
>> The so called pure conservatives have accomplished nothing. No Wall, illegals flooding in, Obamacare in full force, $800 Billion annual trade deficits continue, food stamps population at record high, no Keystone pipeline, ISIS alive and operating, no tax cuts for middle class, abortions as high as ever, $20 Trillion national debt growing, etc etc.
Trump said many times he thought Petraeus got a raw deal, and was guilty of much less than Hillary.
I’m sure he will give Petraeus a pardon whether or not he appoints him.
So what has the GOPe accomplished? All the same and less?
Hey, magila, you’re an idiot.
