..She has for one, shown serious dedication to that most fashion of affectations: the shoulder robe (the art of balancing your coat on your shoulders, which offers a more nuanced, high level approach to putting on an outerwear garment rather than the pedestrian act of simply putting your arms through the sleeves). Her efforts here are accomplished. On stage in Iowa, after introducing her husband as the best master negotiator she stepped back from the lectern, flicked that perfect blow-dry delicately over her shoulder, and all without her bright red coat budging an inch. Thats not just rigid tailoring and a sturdy shoulder-pad; thats professional....

Way back decades ago, women dressed with such class and lovely taste. For the most part, they were a lot thinner than women are today, and they looked lovely in stylish dresses, skirts, and heels, even just going shopping. And most did it not being wealthy, just being middle class, working poor, etc. Thinking of my own mother, my dad a three-striper in the Air Force, yet mom always looked lovely.

Melania Trump’s approach when it comes to fashion, it seems, is that she’s above it. Her consistent aesthetic, one that’s timeless but never stodgy, signals a self-assurance and a confident ability to ride above the fast-fashion fray, perhaps thanks to her wealth, her sturdy place in the social hierarchy or her own experience in the fashion world.
It looks like a cape, not a coat...
I simply do not see what the fuss is about. I would rather see this look than Michelle Obama’s exposed arm pits. Since Michelle Obama started (I don’t recall other First Ladies going to that extent with the sleeveless style), that the faux blonds on FOX and other cable news have also been switching to sleeveless cocktail dresses.
Any man looks 100% better and more authoratative in a suit - which equals sexy.
And don’t get me started on military dress uniforms ;-)
Not the first time there’d be a fashion model in the White House. President Gerald Ford wore clothes very well, also.
People smoked everywhere. The office, restaurants, shops, church, in hospitals, theatres, government agencies, on trains & buses, in a taxi, in a supermarket, etc. Try explaining that to a millennial.
I hate seeing men walking around with their hands in their pockets, and it is even worse when a woman does it.
Church is one place I don’t recall ever seeing anybody smoke; but all the other places, yes. In the early ‘seventies, we smoked in university lecture halls - and a lot of the profs were smoking while they lectured.
Not that I think it was a good idea; but it’s interesting to see how demonized it has become - people are even afraid of it in the open air, while big trucks and buses roll past them spewing exhaust ;-)
sheesh..she could have been on the runway

Oh, don't get ME started about my crush on Dick Cheney!
My husband wore his Air Force Mess Dress for our wedding. (He's German - he looked like a young Heinrich Himmler.)
Many of our Latin American congregants wear suits for church. (Others wear construction or landscaping work clothes, because they're going to work as soon as Mass is over.)
Just as any woman, regardless of her age or build or whatever, can find clothes in which she looks tidy and dignified, so can any man. I consider wearing a dress and a set of jewelry to Walmart (instead of pajamas) as a battle against entropy.
I forgot about capes. That’s it.
Dad didn't work. Mom worked shift work in the wrapping room at Nestles in Central NY for over 25 years. Still, she had style. Even wore skirts and blouses to work.
Yes. Tres chic.
Wish I wasn’t so short or clutzy to pull it off myself . . . alas . . . love her coats.
No Eskimo look for the First Lady to be.
In our area, I notice that the Hispanics and African Americans are the only ones who seem to really dress up for church; we see them sometimes in the grocery store, picking something up on the way home. Their little children are always dressed up, too.
Enough of your family posts , lysie. This is about Melania .
There is a refinery nearby that still has the old fashioned bathrooms with the old fashioned ashtrays in the stalls.
Remember when even the fitting rooms of department stores had ashtrays?
