Its impossible to do an article about Uranus without opening up the back door to a spit storm of potty humour....
Anyway, perhaps one of the strangest aspects of Uranus is its tilt....
The Earth is tilted 23.5 degrees away from the Suns equator. Mars is 25 degrees, and even Mercury is 2.1 degrees tilted....
Uranus is 97.8 degrees...
...[A]stronomers define the angle as greater than 90 degrees when you take its direction of rotation into account. When you describe it as turning in the same direction as the rest of the planets in the Solar System, then you have to measure it this way.
What could have done that to Uranus, how could it have happened?
...
The early planets smashed into each other, pushed one another into new orbits. Some planets could have been spun out of the Solar System entirely, while others might have been driven into the Sun. Our own Moon was likely formed when a Mars-sized object crashed into the Earth. Other moons might have been captured from three body interactions between worlds...
The Solar System that you see today contains the survivors. Everything that wasnt delivered a death blow.
... This means that something smashed into Uranus while it was still surrounded by the disk of gas and dust that its moons formed from.
... Astronomers think it was more complicated than that, however. If it was a single, massive collision, models suggest the planet would just flip over entirely, and end up rotating backwards from the other planets in the Solar System.
Its more likely that another collision or even a series of collisions put the brakes on Uranus end over end roll, putting it into its current configuration.

30,000 ft not 3,000 and while being crushed, you would vaporize in the 800 degree heat and the vapor would be dissolved by the sulfuric acid rain ...
LOL LOL LOL LOL!!!!!!
Oh, oh, I know. Because it’s a Van Gogh body.
I saw that picture from the Russian probe. It got off a few pics before being crushed. Venus has a yellow sky, too.
You may need to check your math.
“The pressure of Venus’ atmosphere at the surface is 90 atmospheres (about the same as the pressure at a depth of 1 km in Earth’s oceans).
nineplanets.org/venus.htmlThe Nine Planets”
1 km = 3280.84 feet
This explains how the planets were arranged. Really........

But where does all that methane come from?
From aliens who use it as a rest stop......
I believe that completely. Even presidents are refused access to what's going on in the government's deep black projects. Interestingly enough, they're not considered as having a 'need to know'.
It no doubt sounds like pure tin foil fantasy to a lot of people, but this sort of stuff fits hand in glove with the reality of human nature. Where evil can gain a foothold and prosper, it will - and if remaining hidden under a cloak of darkness forwards its goals, that's exactly what it will do.
Earth tilted 23 degrees AWAY? The southern hemisphere would disagree. That north is not up.
"...so many answers, too much to type. Risk being banned, but it's so ripe. Naaah,I'll be good,I'll wait and think...??? No, it's Uranus,it's sideways,it's starting to stink"
Someone told me it was gravitational pull from Planet X
“Why is Uranus on its side?”
Well, I don’t know about Uranus, butt mine is just fine.
Bad.
5.56mm
I don't understand this. What leverage does a planet have on a "disk" of material rotating around it, said disk being made of more or less independent rocks and gases? Isn't it more likely that the disk accumulated after the tilt?
You look after Uranus, I’ll look after mine.
Shouldn't they be called "Asteroids"?
I give up. You win the thread.
Do I have to mention he was in Vietnam?
Lol.
Note: this topic is from . Thanks BenLurkin.

Another celestial body smacked it like a cue ball hitting another pool ball and knocking it sideways????
