When did Free Republic posters turn on Ted Cruz?

Posted on 02/19/2016 6:03:16 PM PST by hardspunned

I've come to this site every day since Ted Cruz became a national political figure. Perhaps I'm just getting old with a failing memory but I can't recall any derogatory posts about Cruz until Donald Trump began his ad hominem attacks on him. I don't remember Freepers attacking him as he built a record in the senate.

Can someone direct me to the threads and posts by the Freepers who now hate Cruz that were made prior to September of last year?

I am a Cruz or lose kinda girl. Trump is a human gumball machine. Look for anything to come out of Trump’s mouth. I will hold my nose and vote for Trump but I prefer Cruz.

If you would vote for Trump as 2nd choice, then you're not really a "Cruz or Lose" person. A "Cruz or Lose" is somebody who would rather see the Democrat win, than vote for any Republican but Cruz -- something like what we saw here in 2012, where I recall people saying they would rather Obama win, with the idea that boycotting "RINOs" would force the Republican party to nominate a true conservative next time.

For me, my original first choice was Scott Walker. I thought his experience as governor, and his willingness to fight the Democrats during Wisconsin's "Right to Work" fight, would make him a great president. But he turned out to be not charismatic enough on TV to appeal to many people, plus he fell down on immigration, so I had to look for a second choice.

Sigh you still don’t understand. An opinion is just that, an opinion. It’s neither right nor wrong just an opinion! I give up.......

probably the same fools who drooled over shrub when he was president (as in the endless gushing posts on a day in the life of...) A lot of people here are died in the wool GOPe and not in the least conservative.
Interesting...
I think most Freepers would define “dyed** in wool GOPe as those here who Support Bush, Rubio, and Kasich. Frankly I don’t see any people here that fit that description.

Just wondering...So who did you vote for in 2000 and 2004? Who did you drool over?

**corrected “died” to “dyed”

Again, why not answer the question, who did you vote for in 2000 and 2004?

Because that IS NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS.

LOL I really don’t personally care if you voted.

But it is just as I figured...your vote won’t support your foolish comment. Sorry pal, there are not a lot of GOPe supporters here in the first place—let along GOPe supporting Trump.

Oh, my start date sort of is because I have a hunch I have posted a lot more threads than you—conservative threads on Obamacare for example...long before you were even here. So don’t talk to me about being conservative.

OK, so say you’re a conservative & you posted threads on 0bamacare before 2004 (even though that was years before 0bamacare). So, since you claim to be a conservative, which conservative candidate are you supporting? Unless you plan to sit out the election...

Very astute of you to note that Obamacare did not get passed in 2004. I should clarify that I was posting many conservative threads before you were here....No obama care was while you were here—but you can find threads posts by me about Obamacare and many other topics. I have posted 88 threads, at least one this week.

“You say you are conservative” LOL I don’t have to prove to you that I am conservative.

I am supporting Trump. Here is why—IMHO he is more conservative on the following issues:

I am very concerned about Defense, Terrorism, and Immigration, H-1B VISAS Vet affairs, Common Core and Balance of Trade—just to name a few. I think Trump is stronger and MORE CONSERVATIVE. These topics would not even be discussed if it were not for Trump, so I am grateful.

You know, I resent your implication that I am GOPe. Frankly, I think Trump is as far from GOPe as a candidate can get.

JR has no problem with people supporting Trump, so maybe you should just dial it down a little.

Donated to Ted four times.
I got a bad taste regarding his campaigns behavior in Iowa.

I prefer Trump now but Cruz is my second choice.

Won’t vote for anyone else.

I know that is the prevailing view of many. I think you’re wrong. But, that’s just my opinion. I’m not sure Cruz will get the chance to show people his true personality.

I think, it might take a little more time.

Personally, the fact that most Republican Senators hate him makes me like him even more. I’ve heard him speak at length. I’m convinced the media narrative is false. But, I do agree that it takes a little while to get used to the tone of his nasally voice.

I’m Cruz or loose boots on the ground. And what it means is that if Cruz doesn’t win tis country WILL lose. He is the only one with Constitutional experience which, now more than ever, will be needed to appoint Constitutionalists on the court.

Please don't loose your boots upon the ground. What did it ever do to you. Besides, you might lose them.

Glad to hear your opinion of Trump’s conservatism. I don’t see him as a conservative...he has changed parties many times though less than he’s changed his positions. I can’t predict anything that he’ll do despite what he is saying today. If he’s the president, I hope that you are right...

Immigration...I THINK he’s pretty good...

If Trump wins the nomination. would you be happy with Cruz either becoming Attorney General, or a Supreme Court position? Or maybe AG until a SC position opens up?

I guess it started when the kissing between Donald and Ted stopped.

It wasn't just Trump's attacks on Cruz. Ted's connections with Wall Street and the loans he got had an effect as well.

I suppose that Donald Trump's attacks did influence a lot of people, but it's also inevitable when a politician runs as anti-Establishment or anti-elite that voters eventually start asking just how true that talk is.

I can see him in those positions, too. However, since Trump has gotten so nasty with Cruz, I doubt he would even offer him those before his sister.

Would you be happy with Trump as Secretary of Commerce or Treasury secretary?

Yep. I said before, several times, that although I prefer Trump, I’d be happy with a President Cruz as well.
