Ancient trysts between Neanderthals and modern humans may have influenced modern risks for depression, heart attacks, nicotine addiction, obesity and other health problems, researchers said.
Some of the scientists' discoveries confirm previous ideas. For example, earlier research suggested that Neanderthal DNA influenced skin cells known as keratinocytes that help protect the skin from environmental damage such as ultraviolet radiation and germs.
The new findings suggest that Neanderthal genetic variants increase the risk of developing sun-triggered skin lesions known as keratoses, which are caused by abnormal keratinocytes.

What they know about the Neanderthals is somewhat less than we know about Obama.
Ten years ago the NYT ran an article saying it was within the past 6,000 years.
Did someone say tryst?
Unless he’s pure black African, as an African-American his DNA most likely contains Caucasian DNA. There was a lot of mixing between whites and blacks in American, and blacks here are very light skinned compared to Africans.
Most certainly, yes.
He really doesn’t like being challenged on his rants being a sign of his own insecurities and search for a defined identity.
Neanderthal?
That might explain this hairy girl I once woke up with.

Fascinating. I recall not too long ago the general consensus was that modern humans had no Neandertal DNA, now they say as much as 40% got transferred.
Since Africans don’t have any Neanderthal DNA, this means that Africans aren’t subject to depression, heart attacks, nicotine addiction, obesity and other health problems?
Besides, the Celts WERE originally European, from central Europe, I believe. Yes. My family always claimed we originated in the Rhine valley. However that may be because many of us married PA Dutch, Quakers, and Amish.
I have also heard the Celts never stopped moving west, even past the US and to Australia.
And FWIW, not much, Pictures of my family show smaller, wirey types while pictures of mrs p6’s family are, let’s say, of ...ummm...stockier folk.
Oh, there are also stories from my family of Pictish branches as well as being horse thieves in Kelton Parish, UK.
That would be the case if there was only one out-of-Africa.
I think I read somewhere that there was a lot of toing and froing twixt Africa and Europe.
I stopped reading after the fourth word in the title...
I’ll have the roast duck, with the mango salsa.
Or, as the scriptures say:
When man began to multiply on the face of the land and daughters were born to them, the sons of God saw that the daughters of man were attractive. And they took as their wives any they chose ... The Nephilim were on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of man and they bore children to them. These were the mighty men who were of old, the men of renown.
Did ancient humans and neanderthals really have âtrysts?â
I hope they at least had dinner and a movie first........
“Was it the moon? No, no, the Bossa Nova.”
This entire thread is “binary” and “hetero normative” in the subject matter.
What about the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgendered Neanderthals???? What about their health issues??? What about their progeny???
May... could... might... This is modern “Science”.
If you don’t like the current anthropological theories just wait a while. They are as malleable as the weather.
“Was it the moon? No, no, the Bossa Nova.”
More Bull crap-— Africans who had ZERO chance of “trysting” with Nianderthals have major problems with heart disease and depression.
Nice try, guys.
