LITTLE ROCK (KATV) - An 8.52-carat white diamond was found June 24 by Bobbie Oskarson of Longmont, Colorado, at Arkansas's Crater of Diamonds State Park, according to park officials.
Clear white and icicle shaped, this gem is the fifth largest diamond found by a park visitor since the state park was established at Arkansas's diamond site in 1972.
Twenty minutes into her search, she found the diamond in a couple scoops she had dug from a small mound of dirt.
Oskarson was in the southwest corner of the park's 37 ½-acre search field in an area known as the Pig Pen, aptly named because it is the muddiest part of the search area after a good rain.
She named her gem the Esperanza Diamond, both her niece's name and the Spanish word for hope.
At this time, Oskarson plans to keep the gem.

Big rock found in Little Rock
By a girl name Bobbie
She gave it a Spanish name because the English words have all been taken.
IT’S CARBON!!! CARBON IS BAAAAD!!!!
But it is sequestered carbon, so it is good.
I was three and tried it, but I got tired quick. It was hot sweaty and work. I was on vacation.
Yes, but do you realize how much heat and energy it took to sequester that carbon?
I have always wanted to go there and try out my prospecting skills...
best news all day
I wonder how it will look after it is cut? Will the finder keep as a ring, or pendant,or sell it and bank the proceeds?
Pooh...A thirty second job for Superman.
Looks like rock candy to me!
What a coincidence, huh?
Anyone may challenge me on that, as I don't recall in the least as to where I read it...but I did read it and recalled it amongst the zillions of useless trivial facts that are running around in my head, sometimes.
Yep, she gonna have to pay a serious carbon tax on that. Our Dear Leader has deemed it so.
DeBeers carbon, apparently, his higher grade stuff than any others.
I remember the one where Superman grabbed a handful of charcoal and squeezed it into a diamond. Then Lois Lane and Lana Lang showed up and he thought `Uh oh’!
This appears to be an excellent article on the subject. No time now to look through it though. Gotta leave for work.
How Do Diamonds Form?

Supposedly, that is the only place in the world where you can freely explore for diamonds with a reasonable chance of finding one, and if you find it, you get to keep it. Other than the rarity and novelty of an American diamond, I don’t think that any of size are really of gem quality (very valuable), though. Still it will be worth a good buck.
Well, my bud and I had been exploring. I stopped at mom's after. She was at the sink washing dishes.
I said Mom...you'll never guess what I found today. A diamond!
She was kinda a shaky little lady and began to shake more as I came near her.
Then I showed her a huge chunk of coal and said...But I have to get hold of superman.
My poor mom...
This rock will make a stunning 5kt Oval cut fit for a Saudi bride, and the leftover slabs will make excellect pave diamonds for a spectacular ring. She says she plans to keep it, but the color, carat and clarity says she won't walk away from a million dollars PLUS a ring for herself.
I think you are right.
