But the curriculum he developed is still in place.
To begin with, the lessons seem to remove blame from the perpetrator and instead shift it onto the victim, as well as the parents. In one example, where a boy molests his younger sisters, the sisters are condemned for dressing immodestly, and the parents are also shamed for exposing the boy to temptation through the act of having him change his sisters diapers.
Modesty was a factor. It was not at the level it should have been in my family. It was not uncommon for my younger siblings to come out of their baths naked or with a towel. They would often run around the house for the next twenty minutes until my mom or sister got around to dressing them. Changing my younger sisters diapers when they were really young may not have been a big thing, but it really did not have to be that way[ ] My younger sisters used to wear dresses often, but as they were young and not aware of modesty, they did not behave in them as they should.
Mom did not push the modesty unless we were in public, and Dad only had the opportunity to mention it during weekends. Little people do not realize their nakedness right away [My mother] explained to me that she had no idea how visual male sexuality is, compared to women who are mainly by touch. I am so grateful my parents have changed so much of this area in our home.
A different lifestyle, with more modesty, might have prevented what happened.

“I believe the parents should be on the registry.”
The sex offender registry is not intended to be a punishment for crime, even though it has that effect. It is also for actual sex offenders.
So, while you find what you perceive (because there is no way possible for any of us to fully know what they said and did in private) to be the actions of the parents wrong or evil, the parents don’t belong on a registry, unless they are actually admitted or otherwise proven sex offenders.
The sex offender registry is not a tool to be used to punish people we don’t like.
“Dont be stupid, you know we mean Josh.”
Oh no I don’t know that. In fact, mountainbunny, who you were agreeing with, has clarified that she does believe the parents should be on the list, but not because they are actually offenders.
“as for him and his parents...they should be horsewhipped”
If I had to guess, and it would have to be a guess, the parents and probably even Josh Duggar would prefer a good horse whipping over what has happened. They would probably be willing to endure worse if it could undo the abuse so it never happened. But that is not possible is it?
Well, at least you are not calling for them to be castrated, imprisoned, and butt raped. That’s better than I have seen from some supposed conservatives around here.
All excellent points.
It also helps when Daddy waits until the SoL for 4th degree sexual assault has expired before he reports it to the law enforcement pervert.
IIRC, Josh Dugger and his wife didnt have their very first kiss until the end of their wedding ceremony (which of course was filmed for their TV show of course their modesty notwithstanding / s)
Or are even allowed to share a hug unless something called a side hug and or allowed to hold hands until they are engaged and even then only under close adult or older sibling supervision, during a courtship which has to be arranged and approved by the family(s) BTW.
The girls must also wear below length dresses and must never bare their shoulders, and are forbidden to extend their education past their home school high school level and as I understand, the girls later education focuses mainly on the home arts, she is not expected to nor allowed to have a career outside of being a wife and mother to a big brood of kids, and even the guys are not to wear shorts and they wont even go to a swimming pool or beach out of their concern over being in or even seeing any immodest dress.
But then on the other hand, once married they are expected to have a child as quickly as possible and as many children as possible and in very quick succession one right after another. In other words have SEX and lots of it. SEX, SEX, SEX, SEX, .
I can see why a child brought up in the that environment, when he is old enough to understand that reason his parents have 19 Kids And Counting is because his parents are having lots and lots of SEX, but is then taught that even holding hands with a girl on a date is wrong and immoral, might end up being very sexually confused and frustrated.
Add to that a philosophy that says that if he is tempted and acts on that temptation, it is probably because it is the girls fault for tempting him by her immodesty, including that of his 4 year old sister.
That is some pretty sick stuff in my book.
Logical outcome of treating women as nothing more than a uterus
.
“Am I correct in assuming these people are mormans?”
Hardly Mormons.
Instead they have full support and endorsement, from Dr. James Dobson, Family Research Council.
I think the excerpt is misleading; it should identify Bill Gothard in the excerpt. With this first paragraph it now makes sense.
-— When the cameras are off, nobody knows what goes on behind closed doors. -—
I’ve known several people who have said that they were molested by either a father or brother.
None were from large families, probably because large families are exceedingly rare these days.
I salute the Duggars for being open to life, but if their goal was simply to beget as many children as possible, that’s different. Not the worst thing in the world, but a mistake. I’d dismiss it as their business, but they’ve made their family our business.
That was according to Arkansas attorneys I have heard on this case so courts probably do have some flexibility depending on state laws and the nature of the crime, age of the victims, risk of reoffending etc.
How do we know the victims have moved on? Did you talk to them?
While you’re preaching, you might want to give some thought to avoiding the bearing of false witness-—i.e., labeling those who recognize an admitted abuser as bitter, selfish, alienating, etc.
You just said it yourself-—you can’t examine anyone’s life to “reveal their hypocrisy”, as you put it. So I would suggest you find another way to deal with your anger over your idolization of the Duggars.
As a member of the mainstream and religious media as well as a consumer of media for much of my life I have seen “sex scandals” aired in public with children as victims involving people of all backgrounds like the gay weatherman on Miami television to the members of the clergy from the liberal United Church of Christ to Rabbis to Catholic priests to fundamentalist Christians and Mormons and so on........throwing bombs at religious backgrounds or sexual background isn’t an answer.
Sexual misconduct including the kinds that make us all angry like adults and children cross all boundaries in our society and are not symptomatic of a particular group.
Jan, with all respect the reason for the anger towards the Duggars is for many of us this: They, the Duggars are marketing a certain brand of Christianity. If you look at Bill Gothard and his ministry it is/was a marketing organization. That organization ammased a fortune. A fortune in money, land, political power and people power. They did this marketing a very specific brand. This brand perpetrates abuse under the guise of holiness. Extreme better than thou holiness that is attractive to many Christains.
You ascribe all kinds of evil motivations for opposing the Duggars. For me opposition to the Duggars is not a new thing. For me it goes back 20 or more years. 20 years of warning my fellow Christians about the Bill Gothard cult.
To oppose Bill Gothard was and is in some circles tantamount to opposing God himself. That is wrong. Holding up the Duggar family as an example of what a godly family should look like is wrong and dangerous business. The Duggar family are cultist. They need sunlight and fumigation. Sunlight is anathema to the whole system Bill Gothard propogated. Don’t believe me because I said it. Do your research. Start at Recoveringgrace.org. I am in no way shape or form in any manner affiliated with that website. It was founded by former ATI families. You can read ATI training materials there as well as excellent analysis of what they taught and the history of the ministry. You can also read lots of personal stories and testimonies from former members of ATI families. Don’t believe me. Perform due diligence.
Does anyone know the name of the church that they attend(not the denomination)?
“That is some sick crap they are into. I just thought they were sort of odd and a novelty, but this Gothard connection is troubling to say the least.”
You would expect people on the level of Dr. James Dobson and Tony Perkins of the Family Research, might make it their business to know such things, or at least I would expect it.
Dobson wrong about Ted Haggard, now wrong about Josh Duggar.
Wrong. Many Christians know something about Bill Gothard's cult, and recognize that the Duggars are not at all normal Christians.
Christianity doesn't teach the avoidance of hand-holding, and I don't know a single Christian woman who says she "regrets" kissing her husband before marriage. What kind of foolishness is that?
Christianity doesn't teach that little girls have to wear skirts even when riding a bike. Or that the females in the family need code words to whisper to the males, so they can drop their eyes and not be tempted by a woman.
The Duggars have always given me a creepy vibe. Now I know why.
"I have also not bore false witness against anyone, but rather have sat back in amazement at the vitriol and accusations leveled at the Duggars."
Accusations? Josh Duggar admitted to being a sexual abuser.
Funny...to those who idolize the Duggars, stating facts seems to qualify as "vitriol."
"I merely speculated that it is possible people are looking at their own messed up lives and allowing emotion, rather than objective fact, to guide their thinking."
You accused those who aren't fawning over the Duggars of having ruined their lives and their fertility, of selfish endeavors, and of alienating their children.
The question is, why are you so upset over criticism of a TV family that you lash out at anyone who doesn't fawn over them?
"Are you bitter? Jesus Christ died to help you!"
Amen, He did. Praise God.
Remember that next time you level false witness at a bunch of people you don't even know.
“Those who sexually molested and the adults who knew about the molestation and did nothing to stop the molestation should be on the offender list.”
I’d say they should be charged with not reporting a crime, Aiding and abetting and what else the prosecutor can come up with.
