Perhaps it varies by state. In Ohio, a minor can be sentenced to include the sexual predator registry list long after age 18. I teach at Steubenville High School. I'll let you Google the details if you're not familiar with the rape case, but the two boys have to maintain their registry for decades.

That was according to Arkansas attorneys I have heard on this case so courts probably do have some flexibility depending on state laws and the nature of the crime, age of the victims, risk of reoffending etc.
