Jan, with all respect the reason for the anger towards the Duggars is for many of us this: They, the Duggars are marketing a certain brand of Christianity. If you look at Bill Gothard and his ministry it is/was a marketing organization. That organization ammased a fortune. A fortune in money, land, political power and people power. They did this marketing a very specific brand. This brand perpetrates abuse under the guise of holiness. Extreme better than thou holiness that is attractive to many Christains.

You ascribe all kinds of evil motivations for opposing the Duggars. For me opposition to the Duggars is not a new thing. For me it goes back 20 or more years. 20 years of warning my fellow Christians about the Bill Gothard cult.

To oppose Bill Gothard was and is in some circles tantamount to opposing God himself. That is wrong. Holding up the Duggar family as an example of what a godly family should look like is wrong and dangerous business. The Duggar family are cultist. They need sunlight and fumigation. Sunlight is anathema to the whole system Bill Gothard propogated. Don’t believe me because I said it. Do your research. Start at Recoveringgrace.org. I am in no way shape or form in any manner affiliated with that website. It was founded by former ATI families. You can read ATI training materials there as well as excellent analysis of what they taught and the history of the ministry. You can also read lots of personal stories and testimonies from former members of ATI families. Don’t believe me. Perform due diligence.

Yes, Bill Gothard was a false teacher. I completely agree and have spoken about the deception of this man and his work. I do not know the extent of their involvement with Gothard and never heard them mention Gothard (but I only watched a couple episodes).

I could be wrong, but I am not going to stone a repentant sinner who has moved on successfully with a beautiful family of his own from something he did when he was 14. Am I trying to belittle his sin? No! Sin, especially sexual sin is horrible because it affects more than just the person. But my understanding is that this was not rape, sodomy, or other, but rather touching. Is it horrible? Yes! Should we throw him in prison or execute him? No.
