It was reported Monday that Bill Gates, Microsoft co-founder and incredibly wealthy guy, and with his wife, Melinda, have given $1 million to Initiative 594 in Washington state. The ballot initiative, if passed by voters on November 4 (and it currently enjoys overwhelming support), will require universal background checks for all firearm purchases in the state.

Why don't you go spend your money in Florida or Texas Billy boy? Let's see if you can win a fight that isn't already won. Go throw your your money away. there are 5 million of us and we will be delighted to go to war with you and your company-absolutely delighted.
He can spend all the money he wants on this issue,
it doesn’t change the fact that self defense is inalienable.
It would be like spending a whole boatload of money to repeal the law of gravity.
the daily Beast? why bother reading it?
I am doubting that universal background checks has “overwhelming support”.
Mr. Gates is reported to have armed security guards at his house, and around him whenever he travels.
Apparently, he believes his life is more important than mine, or anyone else who can’t hire out security.
Bill, if guns are so useless, quit using them.
I don’t normally.
Best of all: you don’t need an ID to vote in Washington. :)
UBC is a poll tested phrase designed to influence the low information voter.
There are enough Low Information Voters to fall for this crap.
LOL WHAT?!?! What a load of left wing bull plop. This guy is moon bat.
Same here.
The bill actually BANS handing a buddy a gun at the range to take a few shots with, UNLESS he undergoes a background check for EVERY gun of yours he shoots with!
Any guesses as to how close I,a degenerate member of America’s “Great Unwashed”,could get to his front door before I was brought down by a hail of gunfire?
Buying a gun in WA, especially a handgun requires two background checks. One federal the other state. When I bought my pistol I had to fill out those two forms. What’s really nefarious about this initiative and its parallel one is gun transfer to the extent if you let a family member just hold your gun it’s considered a transfer and paperwork has to be filled out - it’d be against the law to hand your gun to anyone else for whatever reason. Say you’re gone and there’s a break in. If you grab a gun that’s not yours it’s a transfer and you’re in big trouble. Have to defeat both of these stupid Liberal initiatives.
Sounds like the perfect idea...for getting the eastern half of the state to secede and join up with Idaho.
you know where their fatal flaw is? The more they try to ban firearms, the more Americans rush out to buy them. They’re just fueling the industry and adding fresh recruits to our ranks. they really are the primary reason that the AR15 enjoys such immense popularity. Assault weapons have always been around but they were never this popular. that really didn’t start until Clintoon’s 1994 AWB and then, once Obama started his shiite, sales just went through the roof. If there are more people owning them, there are more people with an interest in any legislation pertaining to them. High cap semi-autos are kind of the same story. They’re creating the market and the industry is just happily filling the increased demand. The result is more new gun owners with an interest in preserving their right to own their weapon. At the rate their going, pretty soon, you won’t be able to walk down the street without tripping over an assault rifle or high capacity magazine. There will be more guns per square mile in America than in Iraq or Afghanistan.
“Genius”?
LOL, Gates hasn’t done anything innovative in decades.
And what he did do could hardly be termed “genius”.
Yup, it’s the Computer Nerds vs. the Real Men. Gee, who will win that fight when push comes to punch-out?
I wonder if said Nerd Genius has armed bodyguards. Or a nice security system in place at his house. These are things I ponder when the rich and famous try to push gun control on the rest of us.
All those east Seattlers will be sure to submit to their back ground checks. Uh huh.
