Obama Third Greatest President??

I work about a mile from the Smithsonian museums and like every good Washingtonian, I never visit the famous sites. Today, being Labor Day, and having nothing else to do, I decided to go the Smithsonian Museum of American History. In one area they had a poll, taken by the museum visitors (how many thousands would that be?), voting for the greatest president in history. George Washington came in first, Abraham Lincoln second, Barak Obama third. I always thought "my jaw dropped" was just a fanciful expression, but my jaw DID drop. Reagan, by the way was 4th.

In Buchanan’s (very partial) defense, there is little he could have done without precipitating the war earlier. As a lame duck, it was probably the right thing to do to mark time till the new president could be inaugurated.

Doing little to prevent the country from getting to a point where secession was inevitable is a worse mark against him, IMO. But then, again, it’s difficult to see what he could have done that would have made things better.

He did do a fine job of (eventually) tamping down the violence in Bleeding Kansas.

Thing is the MSM says things like that with a straight face.

I would say LBJ was even worse than J. Carter. B. Obama actually makes Carter look good, something that a few years ago I didn't think was possible.

In 1993, I visited DC and most of the monuments. I went into every tourist trap looking for Ronald Reagan memorabilia. You'd a thunk that there had never been a Ronald Reagan because they were still in the middle of their orgasmic activity over Bill Clinton and there seemed to be neither hide nor hair nor any representation of Ronald Reagan. (This was before Hillary disgraced herself with her healthcare stuff and proof came out that Slick really was a horn dog.)

I managed to find only two Reagan campaign badges in the bottom of a bin at the National Archive gift shop. And, yes I rescued them both.

It really doesn't matter about Obama's place right now. History will record him as the worst disgrace this country has ever had.

You probably would have found Reagan memorabilia in the gift shop at the American History Museum. There are also a few souvenier shops around the tourist areas that sell old campaign buttons, etc.

Third greatest...who were considered? William Henry Harrison (who died after 40 days in office), Millard Fillmore and Bill Clinton? I know they weren’t comparing Obama to Eisenhower, Bush 41 or Reagan.

Now I need to go back and look at the thing more carefully. I got close enough to see that they were polling who people thought were the greatest presidents, and I could see the result, but I didn’t get close enough to see how people were voting, etc. I’ll take a second look.

It’s nothing more than name recognition.

He is the sitting president, so that is why his name is even mentioned as one of the “greatest” presidents (when anyone with half a brain knows he’s the worst).

It’s a beautiful city on a beautiful stretch of a beautiful river. Too bad it is now filled with the most corrupt people on earth. The corruptocrats of the Grant Administration would blanch at their antics.

As far as the Smithsonian is concerned, it has amazing artifacts but you cannot read any of the explanations that go with them. They are horribly pc and anti-American. Shocking, really.

I read it first as “Obama Third Grader President” and was going to agree! Although on second thought, a third-grader would have done less damage.

I would say LBJ

I suppose I could have had LBJ ‘tied’ for third also but then again there are so many of them so I just picked out a couple of ‘obvious’ ones.....<: <: <:

I was disappointed with the Natural History Museum. Evolution propaganda is everywhere in there.

You’re right. DC is a truly beautiful city. I always feel a little sorry for it. My mom brought us to D.C. in January ‘64 to see Kennedy’s new grave and we stayed. It’s home (D.C. and the Eastern Shore of Maryland are my homes), and I love the place. I always feel a little defensive for it.

Obamacare and amnesty will transform this country forever. Obama may not be the third greatest President ever, but his presidency may be the most influential. He has put the final nail into our coffin.

I hope not Kabar, I hope not. I used to have a (conservative!) history professor who said, “The greatness of America is how we survive our presidents.” However, the way we have systematically kicked the Lord out of our society...that, more than anything else makes me fear for my nation and my people.
