Since 1941, comic book fans have followed the exploits of teenaged Archie Andrews and his friends. This July, they'll find out how he dies.
"Life With Archie" #36 hits stores on July 16, and CNN can reveal exclusively that it tells the story of how Archie sacrifices himself to save a friend.
Few details are known, but it seems fitting that Archie would go out a hero. The 37th issue one week later will end the series.
The "Life With Archie" series has been telling the stories of possible future Archie scenarios for the past few years, and so Archie will continue to be alive in the comics set in the present day. 14 comics that caused controversy 14 comics that caused controversy

Killed while defending homosexual Jughead from hateful Glen Beck fans.
What the heck?
I think I heard they came out with a homosexual character in the Archie comics in recent years. But now Archie will die a heroic death? Do they really have to go there?????
I guess I shouldn’t be surprised anymore by anything in the popular culture.
Next year, the start of the ‘Zombie Archie’ series...
Lol! Sounds about right.
“...the start of the Zombie Archie series......”
Yeah, it’s called “The Walking Jugheads”
Betty was every bit as hot as Veronica, but not as stuck on herself.
Oh, for Christ’s sake... this is a lighthearted comic series. Why don’t they just end it?
AIDS.
Forgive me for asking but, who reads comic books anymore?
This is typical. A comic figure like Archie was invented by real comic book writers and drawers in the golden age of comics.
Because he’s so good, he lasts for decades, into another era.
Now they want to kill him off because he’s not really their kind of guy.
Sooner or later, it seems to happen to all of them.
Why couldn’t they kill off that no-good bastard Reggie?
In effect, Life With Archie has two parallel storylines: one where Archie marries Veronica, one where Archie marries Betty. It's been an interesting storyline to read, to say the least as we see what the Archie gang are like as young adults in their (circa) mid 20's.
“Killed while defending homosexual Jughead from hateful Glen Beck fans”
I always kind of pictured Gomer Pyle and Jughead together as the perfect homo couple. I’m certain there is a term for sitcom characters who are gay for comic book characters as there seems to be a term or recognition for every sort of perversity.
I thought Glenn Beck likes the homosexuals.
You bring up a good point.. maybe over time Archie morphed from an upbeat, energetic teen to a morose, needy, suicidal loser. I just remember the series as it was decades ago.
Betty or Veronica?
I just remember they’re the ones responsible for foisting that damned “Sugar, Sugar” song on mankind.
