Forgive me for asking but, who reads comic books anymore? You bring up a good point.. maybe over time Archie morphed from an upbeat, energetic teen to a morose, needy, suicidal loser. I just remember the series as it was decades ago.

Forgive me for asking but, who reads comic books anymore? I'd invite you to go to places like the Emerald City Comic Con in Seattle, or the BIG Comic Con in San Diego, or go to any of the dozens of comic book conventions that happen every year in the US and overseas. Talk to the people who draw them, talk to the people who run the multi-million dollar businesses that produce them...and THEN ask that question.
Contrary to popular belief, comic book fans are not fat, smelly, socially-inept Obama voters that live in their parent's basements (although, granted, some are...).
I am not trying to berate or criticize...I just believe you'd be quite surprised at who still reads comic books.

Joss Whedon, Kevin smith, Nathan fillion, Wesley snipes, Zachary Snyder, Robert Rodriguez to name a few. The watchmen, sin city, and the 300 and the walking dead are all comic books.

A lot of people, but the numbers have really decreased over the years. I blame the internet and the fact that so many comics have become "dark" and liberal. I still read and buy comics, but it's getting harder to find something that's not about environmentalism, liberal agenda, and near-porn. So, they're shooting themselves in the foot, chasing away audiences.
Personally, I try to support more wholesome comics, independents, Christian comics. Archie's not one of them ever since they added their main gay character. After killing Archie, they'll probably focus on him.

I have 20k+. They actually have developed storylines a long way from where they were before... actually some of the old ones were just as good if not better in that they were more subtle.
It’s great to stumble on great art, good story, and there are conservative as well as the other crap out there. Sure the same pablum as before exists, but that’s little different from someone doing 9 holes or a few hours fishing and tossing them back to get away.
