This is most definitely a current event. My son was just picked up today for his first 2 hour driving lesson. I can't believe it's come to this. :)
I'm sitting here at work and I feel a tremendous - I don't know what. This is almost surreal.
Try to keep up your strength...
Relax.
Just make sure your insurance is current..........
Cherish the time you have with your children. It goes so fast and you cannot get it back.
Otherwise, this is a bridge to freedom for him. Respect that, but emphasize the importance of NOT texting while driving and ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS wear your seatbelt!!!
Tell him not to choke up too much when he uses the driver. Also, a good putting coach can help his game also.
I remember the day our oldest walked out with the car keys............alone.
My wife and I just stared at each other.
In reality, if you haven’t schooled them before that, not much can be done after.
We did reap a big benefit of, you do these errands and you can use the caritis.
My Driving Instructor crashed our Drivers-Ed car into a telephone pole because he was watching the incredible behind of one of my classmates after dropping her off.
It goes from this to just circling the drain... :-)
As another poster said, enjoy every stage and make memories along the way so you’ll have something to embarass them with when they have children.
I know the feeling you are experiencing. I opted to teach my daughter to drive. At the time, I was driving a car with standard transmission. It was a 'stomach in throat' as she tried to coordinate clutch, gears and gas.
Your son is growing up and that is the gnawing sensation you feel right now. Learning to drive is phase 1 ... independence, is phase 2. Hang on tight.
I’m 68 and every day I have greater respect and admiration for my deceased parents who gave me the latitude to find my own way while sharing their life’s lesson in a dignified and not necessarily preaching manner. Of course I didn’t feel that way at the time!
Well, it sounds like he’s not driving Your car, at least.
I will say, when I learned how to drive, it increased my faith in God tremendously. I realized all these people on the road could potentially kill each other and themselves every day... and yet they didn’t. The vast majority of people commute daily for years and live to tell about it. God’s hand is on this process, as people make their way in the world. His hand is on your child, too. That’s why he, and you, are going to be just fine.
Oh, Mama I’m in fear for my life from the long arm of the law...
Went through it with 3 boys. Relax. Let them know your concerns and your expectations and if you have a good relationship with them, they will do just fine. You can’t hold their hands forever and they will move forward and hopefully without too many Incidents. There will however always be incidents...good bad and shades of gray. That is life.
Good luck!
Since he got his license, he has gotten one speeding ticket, but in September, he will get his "adult" license.
Time goes fast, hang on and embrace it while you can!
I have been through this 3 times. Twice with my own sons and the third time was with my youngest son’s friend that lived with us when his home life blew up. I feel your pain. Sorry to inform you it is even more scary when you get behind the wheel with them in the driver’s seat for practice. You will always remember their sweaty palms and their fear to go a bit faster.
But you will get through it (alive). Think of it as a bonding experience that you will laugh about in the future.
Tell him to swing by the liquor store and pick me up a fifth of skullbuster.
Gee Whizzzz....
When I turned 15 I had my sights on the family car; so my dad went and bought an old used Honda 125 cc motorcycle. That kept me away from driving the car for a while. I don’t think I would try that today though.
