By the way, it is Henry Ford, Tom Edison, Warren Harding and Harvey...I forget who Harvey was.You don't know "the rest of the story"?

"You don't know "the rest of the story"?"I did but "mentalpause" is setting in. Still, it is a good time to be old.

photo HitlerinParis.jpg The Archduke and his wife shortly before they were assassinated, 1914: I have a certain fondness for the old guy. He signed the exit visas for both sets of maternal great-grandparents.
Mining coal here was a step up from whatever the Austro-Hungarian Empire had to offer.

Very true as to the weight of people then. No chips and re-fried beans back then. LOL! No elevators, no escalators and if you wanted to get anywhere you walked!

Regarding the pic with Czar Nicholas: could you imagine Stalin posing like that?
The czars for all their faults were a hundred times more human than the communists.
I remember reading somewhere about how relatively few of the czars’ political enemies actually wound up in prison, and how mild the czarist prisons were, with light security and visits from relatives and that sort of thing. The 1917 revolution is a classic case of the cure being a hundred times worse than the disease.

I didn't think of the best wording:
I'm aPauled that you didn't "know the rest of the story"...
Until the instant I mashed post.
Now you know the rest of the story!

Very true! When I lived in Germany and had three flights of stairs to climb to and from our house, I was in way better shape than now...even though I’m not overweight now. My legs were very muscular in all the right places....not to mention my lung capacity.

Regarding the pic with Czar Nicholas: could you imagine Stalin posing like that? Stalin was a big practical joker......he would even tell the rest of the Politburo when they had dinner together that he poisoned their food, just to see their reaction.

*shrug* I'm in near perfect shape.
The ancient Greeks, as you will recall, regarded the sphere as a perfect shape...
