The first Obamacare Death Panel, headed by Ezekiel Emanuel, issued death sentences to 3,500 patients. After evaluating their cases, the panel determined that the patients did not meet the minimum economic cost-benefit criteria and would be terminated within a week. Having a semblance of humanity, the ordered slow death would be painless and with dignity. All 3,500 patients will be loaded on a Carnival Cruise ship and set off on a 1 week cruise. Patients will be plied with liquor and drugs until they were in an absolute stupor. No toilet facilities or food will be provided as all the patients will be thrown over the side on the second day out. Emanuel stated that by throwing them over the side on the second day out it would save money and keep them under control as they would be expecting a full 7 day cruise before their demise.
Medicare has decided that after the age of 80 they no longer take care of them like they used to do.In the past 4 months I have heard of 5 people who had broken hips be refused surgery to set them because of their age.It is here and it is not nice.
That seems like a tricky one to treat. Glad to hear she’s doing well.
If you think it is necessary, pay for the test out of pocket. Shop around the imaging centers in your area and usually you will get a sizable discount for cash.
This has got to be the most idiotic waste of bandwith of the year so far. You thought of this all by yourself or the little beings from the hurling meteor told you?
Not getting a PET scan during chemo is by no means a death sentence. This type of hyperbole does not help.
ummm..I think it is satirical. :)
My dad is 85 and also going through chemo. I keep waiting for him to tell me his insurance company will no longer pay. I know it’s coming and I dread it.
One of the members of the car club I belong to has already received his death sentence. He needs a new pacemaker and was told by his insurance company that “an independent panel” has determined he can’t be covered by the insurance. He’s retired and doesn’t have the money to pay for it himself.
It was all I could do to keep from bursting in tears when he told me. The fear in his eyes was heartbreaking.
I hit “post” too quickly.
I meant to add that your post was brilliant. :-)
>>> You need to spend a whole lot more time reading about chemotherapy and what is really involved.
I know enough to know that lemons are worth a shot!
It’s not hyperbole. Last year he had pet scans with no problem. This year there is a problem.
Hmmmm.... Wonder what changed?
Yes, a pet scan will nt determine life or death. It will however determine future treatment.
A PET scan is not always the best or only test possible. CT scans with multiple dyes are equally effective. Your post hoc ergo propter hoc argument does not hold water.
It is hard for people to admit that their loved ones are getting older and often times getting sicker. He is being treated for cancer. He is 81years old. PET scan or no PET scan the problem could have happened. PET scans do not in and of themselves dictate treatment. All they do is capture a picture of what the current status is. Too many PET scans in a year is a bad thing. Perhaps the insurance company wants the doc to justify another PET scan. This is not unheard of. It helps keeps costs down and also allows the docs to document why they need what they need.
I would suggest that perhaps you need to spend time with the doc or nurse practitioner on the treatment team and find out more about the type of cancer, the type of treatment being done, and MOST IMPORTANTLY sit and talk with your loved one and find out what they want. Chemo can be a grueling experience. Often times patients will decide they have had enough and only want palliative treatments (yes even of chemo).
I would suggest that you need more information
I'm a cynic, I can't help it but it seems to me that people discover they have cancer and then they start doing the slash and burn, they feel terrible, they get better temporarily and then the cancer comes back with a vengeance and the patient dies.
Both my grandmother and mom died of breast cancer. My grandmother never treated hers at all and lived seven years.
I'm going to eventually die from something and I'm not going to ever do the chemo thing because I want as many good days as possible. Once they start on you with their chemo, etc., its downhill from then on.
From their study: "Biennial screening after age 69 years yielded some additional mortality reduction in all models, but overdiagnosis increased most substantially at older ages"

If it is true or not I do not know.
Death Panels have tremendous upside for the fedgov.
Every year sliced off the life expectancy is a tremendous financial boost for Medicare and SocSec.
Last year the pet scan was covered by insurance. This year it isn’t.
Pretty simple.
How can you not set a broken bone? that doesn’t make sense.
Government in charge of health care = rationing = human misery.
Dont you remember Hussian saying that instead of care, one will need to take more pain medications?
Not being covered by insurance does not equate to causing a further problem for your loved one. It is an illogical conclusion. As I stated before their are any number of reasons why problems crept in this year.
You really really do need to get more information
