Israeli paleographer Ada Yardeni has recently identified 50 Dead Sea scrolls found near Qumran in Israel as having been penned by the same scribe, a scribe who also penned scrolls that have been found at the Herodian mountain-top fortress of Masada, where Jewish rebel zealots made their last suicidal stand against the Romans in 73 A.D.
The subject scrolls were previously discovered in six different caves in the area of the Qumran site. In an article authored by Sidnie White Crawford and published in the November/December 2012 issue of Biblical Archaeology Review, Crawford writes that documents penned by the same scribe and found in multiple caves implies that "the scribe was a member of that sect who also copied Jewish scriptural scrolls, countering the idea that the Qumran collection was a non-sectarian ‘general Jewish’ library.”
Crawford also writes that Yardeni suggested that the same ancient scribe who penned these Qumran scrolls was also responsibe for an apocryphon within the Book of Joshua, recovered, not near Qumran, but at Masada. Moreover, she maintains, nine copies of a sectarian manuscript penned by this scribe were discovered in two caves at Qumran and another at Masada, contemporaneous with the Joshua Apocryphon.
Says Crawford, “it seems likely that some manuscripts from Qumran were carried south by refugees fleeing the Roman destruction of Qumran in 68 C.E. [Masada is south of Qumran]. But that’s only a best guess.”

Bush’s fault. Notice how the Republicans managed to keep this from coming out until after the election?
Apparently we’ve discovered the Stephen King of scroll writers.
Wow, that’s fascinating! I’ve been to Mesada. Great experience!
Did you climb it or take the cable-car?
Go "bobbing" in the Dead Sea, too?
“Apparently weve discovered the Stephen King of scroll writers.”
Or Penguin Books’ original gig.
(Obscure reference to the same publishing co. changing its name every 20 years or so)
I took the cable car. Climbing it in that heat would have been unbearable. And yes, I did bob in the Dead Sea. And I made the mistake of dunking my head in. The pain in my eyes was excruciating! I couldn’t see for ten minutes!
Ping!
And I don’t think Stephen King has written a book in at least 20 years.
Sciene Fiction novel published in 2011 is entitled 11/22/63:a novel.
This is a Time travel novel that explores what possible future would exist if someone went back and prevented the assassination of President Kennedy, really good. I expect it will appear in the future as a movie.

The author seems to think that this is news worthy?
Thanks, and I might read it, but I think Stephen King’s name is being used for “his” novels and has been for some years.

"the scribe was a member of that sect who also copied Jewish scriptural scrolls, countering the idea that the Qumran collection was a non-sectarian 'general Jewish' library."
What drives me crazy, and I mean absolutely bonkers, is how many people give MY heritage and history such short shrift, yet do everything in their power, including lie and deceive, to create a palestinian people and history that never existed in time or space.
What makes you say that? How do you know that Mr. King has not been writing his own work for 20 years, and who is writing it? Tabitha?
Twenty years ago is seven years before his “career-ending” accident. What happened to him 20 years ago?
Perhaps longer, doubt it has anything to do with family but more to do with being owned by the publishing co.
My opinion, of course, but I have noticed interesting things about “established” writers and publishers.
In the paperback vs. hardback “Stand”, different brand candy wrappers were left behind by Harold....
Carolyn Keene, Victor Appleton and Franklin W. Dixen turned out to be “Staff” after 50 or so years, and Grossett and Dunlop has changed names several times.
I think the “best” writers with many publications only need to submit outlines or the first couple of chapters to the publishers, who have “Staff” flesh out the rest.
