Coyotes in Long Beach?

It’s like, 50 miles to the nearest woods.

Are they sure it isn't an influx of Chinese restaurants?

the food arrived just the other day
it came to the house in the usual way
there was a tip to give, and
paper plates, came from a wok just a mile away
it was good but don't ya know it, before twas through
we found cat meat through and through, man
there was cat meat through and through

there was cat in the ladle, at the Hong Kong spoon
delicate essen from here to Rangoon
have you tried a cat yet? in now now when?
and we'll taste it better then, man
we know we'll eat a big cat then

had taco bell just the other day
the kfc rats had all ran away
it was good and moist, and brown and nice
it tasted better than the animal that eats mice
and as I chewed away, the taste never thinned, it said
I'm gonna love cat too, yeah, some rat meat and cat meat too

there was cat in the ladle, at the Hong Kong spoon
delicate essen from here to Rangoon
have you tried a cat yet? in now now when?
and we'll taste it better then, man
we know we'll eat a big cat then

well I had some porridge just the other day
tsted like ca I just had to say
HUN? i'm asking you, is there cat in this pile?
she nodded then she said with a smile
what I'm really like now is to make all your cats food
there is less of them in that big brood

there was cat in the ladle, at the Hong Kong spoon
delicate essen from here to Rangoon
have you tried a cat yet? in now now when?
and we'll taste it better then, man
we know we'll eat a big cat then

I no longer care if the hair's cut away
i eat it up as I chew away
I thought I like to eat this, I just don't mind,
I try every meat of the animal kind
you see, there's mad cow in cattle, and the avian flu
but it's sure nice the meat with no "moo" bads
it's sure nice to eat no "moo"

and as I picked up the phone for delivery
I'll order more white meat
cat is the new white meat

there was cat in the ladle, at the Hong Kong spoon
delicate essen from here to Rangoon
have you tried a cat yet? in now now when?
and we'll taste it better then, man
we know we'll eat a big cat then

Coyotes are not to blame. The irresponsible cat owners are to blame.

Keisler says this is the start of the wildlife season. He advises residents to bring small dogs and cats inside for the night and only walk them during the daytime. He also suggests removing sources of food, water and shelter to avoid attracting coyotes.

I advise anyone who is able in the area to go coyote hunting and put the fear of man into these little wolves.

Screw animal control! If one of these came after my cat, he’s toast! I’d get out one of my rifles and smoke the damn thing!

Oh you mean the cat owners who are letting their cats out at night are crying because a better predator is eating their cats.

The cats that leave their droppings on their neighbors patio. Or tear up their plants.

Too bad, keep your cat in the house.

I have a hard time feeling sorry for people who allow their cats to roam outside.

I have a 10-22 with a silencer on it that would put a stop to that coyote problem real quick. City limits or no. At 4AM, nobody is going to see a thing.

Now that’s what I need!
A coyote ought to keep those pesky neighborhood cats out of my garden!

I’ve tried everything... mousetraps, bb-guns...

Several cats have suddenly gone missing in one north Long Beach neighborhood and its feared coyotes may be to blame.

What's the down side?

1. It'd be nice if they gave a better description of the neighborhood: "North Long Beach" is pretty much Los Angeles.
2. True, the river does cut through LB, much of the river is full of trees. Much of it is lined with open spaces that could support wildlife...then there are the roadside drains that run from the mountains to the Pacific.
3. Coyotes, possums, raccoons, skunks; all prosper around humans. Of course, so do rodents and small domesticated animals (food).
4/a. I'm a little surprised to see nearly as much venom on this cat thread as on a typical pit bull bashing frenzy(!)
4/b. Then again, I once had a neighbor complain at me once because I had four cats: Then I reminded him that neither he nor I had a single rat, mouse, gopher, or feral cat to contend with. (Trust me, 'vector control' is no more concerned with wharf rats than they seem to be with coyotes.)

People and cats, and dogs, ferrets, and multiple mongoose (spelling unknown) hang out together for a reason, romanticizing coyotes assumes that the reason has ceased to exist - it hasn't.

Solution: one shot into the coyote’s spine. Then dump into pre-dug trench just across neighbor’s property line, and bury. “Yeah, my car backfired, I gotta find a new mechanic.”

This kitty thread (and this one as well) is a downer. For those who want a quick summary: Keep your kitties indoors. For those who venture herein, a warning: The jerks have found this one.
