To the moon, troll, to the moon!

During the cold war, JFK claimed to have gone to the moon. He got congress to spend billions on his moon landing and pretended america landed there, convincing congress to give him billions, the fakeness of the landing is well documented.

It seems to me that this liberal moneybags, that he took these billions for personal use, or maybe gave them to the USSR (we all know he was soft on communism)

Perhaps his death was similarly staged in order to keep his billions or keep congress of his case.

I wonder if under an obama administration we will see more moon landings.

Actually it was about 40 minutes earlier. The Post button didn’t respond the first time. But the last Post did the trick.

I never worry about “moments ago.” However, there are a lot of “moments ago” that I would like to change, even though retrospect teaches me that lessons are learned with every passing moment.

Therefore, “moments ago” are valuable. Howzzat for armchair philosophy?

"I had to turn it off, though, because it’s 75 in the dining room, where the thermostat is, while it gets colder upstairs!"

There is an art to these things. If you want to have a "comfort room" with the gas fireplace, you must isolate it from the rest of the house.

But if you want to use the fireplace to heat the whole house, you have to establish a circulation path. Basically, heat rises, so you want to free the flow of warm air to the upper chambers, and perhaps use the back stair, (if you have one), to let the cooler air descend to be warmed again.

All of this you should get from your "Introduction to Basic Physics" class.

We’re planning to get dual-zone heat and air next year, so next winter we should be able to control the heater from upstairs, instead of the room with the oven and the gas fire. Our builder wasn’t bad overall - no disasters unattributable to children in the last five years - but putting it there was stupid.

You mean the one for "servants???"

“Moments ago” are for savoring. “Moments from now” are for anticipation.

In this manner, one’s concept of “now” is expanded. Since now is actually all we ever have, it is worth the effort.

(Bet I can empty an auditorium faster than you can!)

“Back stair” in my dreams. The fire heats the dining room, and that’s it.

You only say that because you haven't read about the foibles of my recent trip...*aside* (Can someone please set up the slide projector?....)

I think you can probably find a way to move your thermostat. I would be surprised if there were not a battery-operated extension device available.

It’s pretty much like a wired telephone. It is recommended to turn off the furnace when messing with the wires, though. The voltage is low, but why confuse the poor furnace?

Ah, good idea! What we’d like it to get the current one moved to another room downstairs, maybe the schoolroom (which would be the dining room if we used the house as planned by the builder). That would get it well away from the stove and the fire.

Then we’d like a separate thermostat upstairs, and the ability to control the ac/furnace from one or the other, as we choose.

"(Can someone please set up the slide projector?....)"

There is a scurrying sound as people rush about. Soon there is nothing in evidence of the previous audience save one folding chair, slowly toppling over.

Thermostats don't work well together. Each wants to be "the boss". You can make it work out, though, by using a timed thermostat. Once the timer has shut the downstairs thermostat off, the upstairs one can then be the boss. It would need a timer too. They should be on alternate shifts.

As to relocating a thermostat, that depends on from where to where. It is really easy to move to the other side of a wall, but more problematic to move to the other side of the room.

To do it properly usually requires access to the underside of your living space, (basement ceiling).

The thermostats couldn’t just have on/off switches? What about unplugging them?

They could certainly have on/off switches.

What would happen if your current thermostat location were pushed through the wall to the other side of it?

It would be in the coat closet.

Actually not so bad. It could be extended from there.

Which direction would work better to extend it in?

South, across the coat closet and through the wall into the schoolroom.

In a zone system you have two or thermostats that work independently. Dampers in the ducts will open or close to different parts of the house .

In that case, you could have all the work done in the coat closet, and it wouldn’t leave an unsightly appearance anywhere noticeable.

There is a way to do this neatly and unobtrusively. And then there are other ways, too.
