Research into the dispersal of Philistine cooking methods among various populations in Israel shows that the Philistines spread their culture beyond the areas under their control... Unlike most of the peoples living in the region in the biblical era, the Philistines were not Semites... They prepared meals in a characteristic sealed pottery vessel suited to long cooking times at low heat, while most inhabitants of Canaan at the time used open pots and faster cooking methods. The bones found at the Philistine cities showed that... the Philistines ate mainly pork, with an occasional meal of dog meat. The Philistines' wine culture was also very well-developed... "It's true that Samson comes into conflict with the Philistines repeatedly," Maeir said, "but on the other hand he also chooses Philistine wives - not once, but twice.

Anti-social SamsonEric Altschuler from the University of California at San Diego and his colleagues say that Samson showed signs of no fewer than six of the seven behaviours associated with antisocial personality disorder. Samson routinely got into fights, and once killed 1000 Philistines single-handedly and then gloated over it, showing no remorse. He also showed a reckless disregard for his own safety when he told Delilah, a woman who'd tried to kill him three times before, the secret of his strength. The researchers note that Samson also burned Philistine fields, which showed both his impulsivity and his inability to conform to social norms. He was deceitful, not telling his parents, for instance, that he got honey from the carcass of a lion. And like many people with ASPD, Samson behaved badly as a child: setting things on fire, torturing animals, stealing, and bullying other children. A whole chapter is devoted to Samson's mother being warned by angels not to drink while she's pregnant.

Forget eating the dog. Keep him around for lots of other chores, and he'll take care of the leftover pork bones besides.
Hey, those Philistines don't sound like such bad folk! Got any recipes?
Got a sudden hankering for pancakes.
Nope, no recipes. As for the Philistines not sounding bad, fido know about that. Of course, they underwent a transformation from the time near the Conquest by Joshua (they dominated Israel for 40 years, something like that, rolling around on iron chariots, I forget) to the time they were wiped out by Assyrians and later Nebuchadnezzar. The early Israelite monarchy struggled with Philistia; Solomon was a major diplomatic thinker and (in modern parlance) diplomatically isolated the Philistine city-states, which by that time were past their prime. As Roger Henry pointed out, the late “Philistine” pottery is basically indistinguishable from that of Greece, suggesting they made none of their own, or had become culturally or ethnically Greek, or at least had Greek states as their main trading partners.
Buttermilk it a double order.
Oh, no...puns!
I ought to cream you for that! That was udder nonsense.
Are they ancestors of the modern Paleostinians?
Dog is supposed to be good eatin’. Dog became the favorite food of the Lewis and Clark expidition and at times those boys were working so hard they were eating uo to 13 lbs of meat a day!
“What did you eggs benedict me to do? I’ve got muffin else to say.”
[one of my favorites]
:’) Possibly, but the chronologically modern Arab population — which isn’t indigenous — is mostly semitic, with some other stuff from way back (colonial European, Persian, Greek, stuff from Roman times).
Squeal have to wait to see if this has pen confirmed.
Food was the leash of their worries.
History bump.
