We had an extended debate at the office today....what was the best "MTv Unplugged" performance?
Me?
Hands down....Alice in Chains! Before any reasons are discussed ..... I was curious as to anyone else's opinions or preferences on the topic?

"I wrote about drugs, and I didn't think I was being unsafe or careless by writing about them. I didn't want fans to think heroin was cool. But then I've had fans come up to me and give me the thumbs up, telling me they're high. That's exactly what I didn't want to happen." - Layne Staley

The show last broadcast about 10 years ago ... as far as I know? That was one of our questions too.

I agree; for some reason it's not on iTunes and I lost the CD.

Gosh, I can't remember the last time I watched Unplugged. I have, though, become a big fan of CMT's Crossroads.

Alice, Clapton and Kurt Cobain all heroin users and on MTV... what's up with that!

To: mcg2000
It's alice in chains without question, even with layne staley flubbing some of the lyrics.

2nd would have to be clapton.

To: mcg2000
You took my answer. AIC. Their set was just superior to that of the other bands and it transitioned better to acoustic. (Though I've only heard a few of the Unpluggeds.)
To: mcg2000
I've only seen Nirvana's, which was performed very well, but the song selection was pretty lame. I've only heard bits of Clapton and 10,000 Maniacs, but what I heard was awesome. Never heard AIC's unplugged.

To: Future Snake Eater
Was "Smells Like Nirvana" ever performed on that show?
 That might get my vote.

No, but they did a cover of 'Another One Rides the Bus' that has to be heard to be believed. :)

one of my all time favorite recordings is MTV Unplugged: 10000 Maniacs One of the best live performances I've ever seen. They had a great sound and were just hitting their Stride when Merchant pulled the plug.
Another great Unplugged event was Rod Stewart's.
