"I just don't want the library books to get wet."

Finally, a good use for those plastic grocery bags!

We put diapers in the plastic grocery bags. The bags aren't strong enough to carry library books!

RE: Harry Potter & Goblet of Fire

Did y'all read the book? IMNSHO, the book is much better, and the lack of (gravitas?) in Dumbledore is disturbing in the movie...this guy is supposed to be *the* most powerful wizard alive, the only person Voldemort is afraid of, and Dumbledore seems...inexperienced. He would never have to raise his voice to order his students, he wouldn't be nearly as surprised by things as he appears, etc.
Otherwise, visually well done.

Perceptive analysis, Doc.

If one were to set out to create a character for the most powerful wizard, the one portrayed does seem a little undermanned.

However, I was just thinking that in all likelihood, Dumbledore fell into his job through happenstance, like most of us. Perhaps he isn't a perfect fit for it.

I guess like most of us, J. K. has no difficulty describing the actions and motivations of those who are evil, but real personalities have a quixotic quirkiness to them that makes them more challenging to capture.

We made it to the library and back without being rained on. Now I'm ready for the wind to shift and the temperature to drop 30 degrees.

And for a magical nanny to come floating down on an umbrella.

In my dreams ...

I see you're working on the wind -- it went from south to north and back again a couple of times in the last 10 minutes, while I was feeding James some mush and watching the weathervane! It's still too hot, though.

Very well. We were invited to a wedding in Tulsa this coming weekend, but unfortunately couldn't make it.

I'm sorry to hear that. I hope it's nothing more serious than a previous engagement.
We recently had a spate of fires here in eastern Oklahoma and a pretty nasty windstorm a couple nights ago to help spread it around.

Just too far to go this time of year, especially at short notice.

Sorry about the fires. Dry summer and fall, I suppose? I talked to a friend in Grove last week, and she didn't mention fires.

Drought for the last six years, really.
Broken Arrow, Okmulgee and north of Tulsa, around Sperry were hit hardest. Good thing Bob Lorton didn't get his home toasted. Otherwise we'd all be made to pay for it in the form of a new tax (sort of like Great Plains Airlines).

I'm back.
Been busy.

And had this in my head:

"In the meadow we can build a snowman. We'll pretend that he is Orson Wells. He'll says "There are martians" we'll say "AUUUUGH!" and panic as we run around the town."

Local politics as usual!

A lot of the people I knew in Broken Arrow moved in 2002-03, when the telecom industries crashed and oil was down.

Yup. I'd leave too. City council's not breaking a sweat in trying to attract business to the area. Neither is Brad Henry. *sigh*

"... there goes the temperature, now. Good job!"

Much as I would like to take credit for your enjoyment of the weather, it is important to realize that weather modification will be as difficult a battle as the current military entanglements, with the same kind of long-range planning and spending.

The key to weather lies in three things: Incoming sunlight, atmospheric circulation, and ocean currents.

My plans clearly would have an effect on incoming sunlight, called insolation. The most positive aspects of our controls could well be in the adjustment of atmospheric circulation. Essentially, it is our hope to use the same energy in a more diverse and comfortable way.

If there is a factor which could be negatively affected, it would be deep ocean currents. These are attributed as the precursors of massive climactic change, and it seems obvious to me that more study is required. Proper adjustments could bring amelioration of weather extremes, but the wrong action could also trigger a new ice age.

While this would be a concern, I feel confident it could be dealt with. At least it would be clear that we had a global, combined goal. The current hodge-podge of competing interests in climactic change are very challenging, since each wants what the other does not.
