Oh yeah it hurt.
Ribs on my right side still spread when I lean wrong due to slamming a tree sideways.
Oddly, I probably should have been.
I cut down a tree by myself and everything goes fine, cut it down with my brother nearby, and it seems to home in on him like a missile.

Clearly, the nose wheel gear does a great deal more than only caster.
Other planes, particularly lighter airplanes, may have tail-wheels, which seem to be preferentially designed for castering.
This type of landing gear, with nose-wheel steering, I believe is used in the space shuttle.

Yes on the F111 it is fully steerable. Most small general aviation planes are more effective steered with braking. In addtion in my case 60% of my total time is in taildraggers. NO NOSEWHEEL!
