The Plantings Of Grace

Read:
Isaiah 55:6-13

Instead of the thorn shall come up the cypress tree, and instead of the brier shall come up the myrtle tree. -Isaiah 55:13

Bible In One Year: Deuteronomy 17-19

cover Today's text states that God causes the cypress tree and the myrtle tree to flourish where once thorns and briers encumbered the ground. This analogy reminds us that God can bring forth beauty and grace where evil once flourished.

Where cynicism once grew, hope and optimism can begin to emerge. Where sarcasm thrived, gentle words of healing can appear. Where lust grew rampant and unrestrained, pure love can spring up. This-a transformed life-is the living and lasting sign of God's work, the memorial He seeks (Isaiah 55:13).

Do you long for this kind of transformation in your life? Then "seek the Lord while He may be found" (v.6). There are moments when we grow tired of the evil within us, and our heart aches for holiness. This is God calling, reminding us that He is near. At such times we must sink our roots deep into God's Word and ask Him to conform us to His likeness. He says that "as the rain comes down, and the snow from heaven, and . . . water the earth, and make it bring forth and bud, . . . so shall [His] word be that goes forth from [His] mouth" (vv.10-11).

Seek the Lord while He may be found. Plantings of grace can replace the thorns of our sinful nature. -David Roper

Sift the substance of my life,
Filter out the sin and strife;
Leave me, Lord, a purer soul,
Cleansed and sanctified and whole. -Lemon

God can transform a sin-stained soul into a masterpiece of grace.

Thank you for the nice compliments on the graphic, and NnB for that wonderful poem. I told Amy that yours are usually a challenge to 'do', so am pleased when I can get it right.

IA ... ahem! for someone who's 140+ years old, I feel especially proud I could still see well enough to help with this home run. LOL! (You thought I didn't see your post a few days ago, huh?) :)

Colleen, I love that picture of Dubya when he surprised those troops on the plane before they deployed to Iraq!

Have a great weekend!

Graphic by Billie

Leisure

A boulevard of graceful trees,
A life of leisure, if you please,
Why do we think of long ago,
When into kitchens you might go,

Or into pantries, and the hall,
Whose closets -- We have filled them all!
With magic things, machines and such,
Mylady may need only touch,

A button here, a lever there,
And quickly from the merest air,
A demon vaults to do what’s bid,
Which moments ere was safely hid.

And to her bidding doth he spring,
In midst of which, the phone may ring.
The work delayed, all is not lost,
The time we saved is worth the cost.

So we have more of it right now,
We’ll find a way to spend somehow.
We’ll chatter endlessly anon,
And soon enough, the day is gone.

We have so much, we choose to waste,
Our lives in ever growing haste.
The drive-thru near the mall is slow,
So quiet meals we must forego.

The labor-saving that we do,
Was meant to trim an hour or two,
Instead of time in which we thrive,
We spend it in the “Rush Hour” drive.

LOL! I got the biggest kick out of it - don't post very often here, but do check each day's opening poems and graphics, and of course, read My Comments. :)

P.S. Tell IA to come on back home next time you email - old people aren't very strong and can't hit *too* hard. :)

The Wearing Of The Green

Saint Patrick
Born: AD 385 ~ Died: AD 461

Saint Patrick, was said to have used the three-leafed shamrock to illustrate the Holy Trinity. He explained in his sermons that the clover represented how the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit were all separate parts of a single entity. His followers adopted the custom of wearing a shamrock on his feast day, March 17.

The Wearing Of The Green
Legends tell of the young Bishop Saint Patrick, who plucked a simple, humble shamrock from the ground somewhere on the lush green hillsides of County Armagh back in the year 432 AD. He used it to explain the Mystery of the Blessed Trinity to the Ancient High Kings of Ireland, making the Shamrock an important symbol as Ireland's National Emblem. It is also said that Saint Patrick drove the snakes from Ireland into the sea. St. Patrick is named the patron Saint for bringing Christianity to Ireland, and introducing the Irish people to Baptism.

That is why March 17th is now celebrated as the "Feast Day Of Saint Patrick", when Irish people from all over the world traditionally wear the shamrock on their chests, hence the phrase "The Wearing Of The Green". Saint Patrick's death on March 17, in about 461, has been observed in America since colonial days.

Sleepin' Pups

There's a guy with a Doberman Pinscher
and a guy with a Chihuahua.

The guy with the Doberman Pinscher says to the guy with a Chihuahua, "let's go over to that restaurant and get something to eat."

The guy with the Chihuahua says,
"We can't go in there.
We've got dogs with us."

The guy with the Doberman Pinscher says,
"Just follow my lead."

They walk over to the restaurant,
the guy with the Doberman Pinscher
puts on a pair of dark glasses,
and he starts to walk in.

A guy at the door says,
"Sorry, mac, no pets allowed."
The guy with the Doberman Pinscher says,
"You don't understand.
This is my seeing-eye dog."

The guy at the door says,
"A Doberman Pinscher?"

He says, "Yes, they're using them now,
they're very good."

The guy at the door says, "Come on in."

The guy with the Chihuahua figures,
"What the heck,"
so he puts on a pair of dark glasses
and starts to walk in.
The guy at the door says,
"Sorry, pal, no pets allowed."

The guy with the Chihuahua says,
"You do not understand.
This is my seeing-eye dog.."

The guy at the door says,
"A Chihuahua?"

The guy with the Chihuahua says,
"You mean they gave me a Chihuahua?"
