Look Both Ways

Read: Joshua 1:1-9

Moses My servant is dead. Now therefore, arise. —Joshua 1:2

Bible In One Year: Genesis 1-2

During our church's annual New Year's Eve Communion service, we say this prayer together: "Father, we surrender this past year and give it up to You. We give You our failures, our regrets, and our disappointments, for we have no more use for them. Make us now a new people, forgetting what lies behind and pressing on toward that which lies ahead of us.

"We give You all our hopes and dreams for the future. Purify them by Your Spirit so that our wills shall truly reflect Your will for us.

"As we stand on the threshold of another year, encourage us by our successes of the past, challenge us by the power of Your Word, and guide us by the presence of Your Holy Spirit."

In every transition, it's good to look both ways. When Joshua assumed leadership of Israel, God told him to consider the past and the future: "Moses My servant is dead. Now therefore, arise, go over this Jordan, you and all this people, to the land which I am giving to them" (Joshua 1:2). Then He promised, "As I was with Moses, so I will be with you. . . . Do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go" (vv.5,9).

With confidence in God, we can look back and look ahead, then walk boldly into a new year. —David McCasland

Forgive us, Lord, for failures past,
Then help us start anew
With strength and courage to obey
And closely follow You. —Sper

The victories of the past give courage for the future.

Hi all. Hangover is the right word.

A New Year is here once more,
With its visions of future promise.
The old ways passed by,
And a fresh start, there for the taking.
All is optimism;
Gloom is gone!
Looking forward to the innocent blossoming of spring
Blooming into a youthful, balmy summer.
But the world does not change.
That beautiful vision of new cleanness
Comes from within;
From the hope for a better world,
And a desire to let the old ways go.
~Phil Harris~

Hi Tulip.

Boy... have I got a hangover?

You bet. I'm drinking sparkling wine right now. Maybe it will cure me... or add to my headache.

Say, Now!

A new first day! Let’s start it right!
Gee, the daylight’s awfully bright.
Maybe I partied some last night,
It’s in the past. Forget it!

Rise and greet the morning sun,
Lot’s of work still to be done.
Nobody said Life would be fun,
But if it is, we’ll let it!

With exuberance we’ll note,
Cheerful living gets my vote,
“A prayer of thanks to Him devote?”
That’s the way! You said it!

Someone lead us in a prayer,
If you’ve got a friend up there,
My example’s not too fair,
Not the way I’ve led it!

Alright, if you still insist,
No sense trying to resist,
I may get points for being missed,
I hope we won’t regret it!

Lord, we humbly bow our head,
And ask again for daily bread,
Let the words be clearly said,
Thank You, Thank You, Thank You!

Good afternoon, Tulip.

My New Year has a great beginning. My Sis surprised me today, she came by with ice cream and cake. It isn't even my birthday!

We had a nice visit.

Thanks Victoria! Sasso is really mad at me because he got a bath today! That boy still has claws and knows how to use them! Ouch! He's in the bathroom with a space heater drying now.

He's doing so much better than he was this time last year. That poor kitty lost a couple of his lives, but he has recovered remarkably well. You asked yesterday if he can see and as best as the vet and I can determine, he can detect movement and may be able to see shadows. His days as a ferocious bug-stalker are over. :( But, he can still sniff out smelly trolls, so Sasso retains his position as a Viking Kitty. And as I mentioned, he still has claws to rip trolls to shreds so Killian can eat them! :)
