Cattle Fever

They call it cattle fever,
Those who haven't got it do.
Its victims think it's heaven
Just to own a cow or two.

It's a virus or a microbe
Or a germ or other thing
That makes a man buy cattle
For the torture that they bring.

Once he becomes an owner,
They deal him naught but pain.
He thinks it's all a pleasure;
Can't get it through his brain.

They break into the neighbor's corn,
His oats or grass or hay;
He puts them into his corral
Then sends a bill for pay.

He's with them in the snowstorms,
In the mud and in the rain.
He gets them out of bog-holes,
And they walk right in again.

He pulls his rope and throws 'em
To doctor them up good.
They don't appreciate him AT ALL;
They'd horn him if they could.

Then for market he does load 'em
Into his shining truck,
Right out of green-grass pastures
With their tails a'swishin' muck.

Ere the truck's half loaded
The deck's a sea of dung,
And the sides are fairly splattered
Where spurts of green stuff hung.

While he pushes here and pushes there
To keep them safe from harm,
They swish their mucky tails
'Crost his mouth and down his arm.

Through darkness and through snow and mud,
He hauls them to the sale
And fixes two flat tires
In a forty-mile gale.

The sale ring's almost empty;
The buyers aren't there
'Cause they've all gone a'hunting
For pheasant, deer, or bear.

The auctioneer begins his spiel
To sell the "victim's" crop.
"I'm sorry, Joe, it would be more,
If it weren't for the drop."

He pulls out bills and ledgers
And those keeping track of time.
If it weren't for his wife's good job,
He wouldn't have a dime.

I think that is a requirement.

I chose something for the jukebox other than "Rhythm of the Falling Rain." ;~)

Why not Elvis with Kentucky Rain (written by Eddie Rabbit). Or Eddie Rabbit with I Love a Rainy Night. Or Brooks Benton Rainy Night in Georgia. OR the Beatles When the Rain Comes. Or Guns and Roses November Rain. Or REM South Central Rain. Or Conspiracy Guy I HATE THE RAIN.

I made the last one up..

"I hate the Rain"

I hate the rain,
Not talkin bout showers.
I hate the rain,
When it goes for hours.
I hate the rain,
Turns my yard to swamp land.
I hate the rain,
Makes my sidewalk quicksand.

Chorus:

I hate the rain, I hate the rain.
I hate the rain, I hate the rain.

I hate the rain,
Get's my truck so dirty.
I hate the rain,
Makes the mud too squirty.
I hate the rain,
Puts mud across the road.
I hate the rain,
It even chokes a toad.

Chorus:

I hate the rain, I hate the rain.
I hate the rain, I hate the rain.

I hate the rain,
When it's fast or slower.
I hate the rain,
I can't use my mower.
I hate the rain,
Creek is rising free now.
I hate the rain,
Ducks are in the tree now.

Chorus:

I hate the rain, I hate the rain.
I hate the rain, I hate the rain.
I hate the rain, I hate the rain.
I hate the rain, I hate the rain.

"Just As I Am"

Read: John 6:35-40

All that the Father gives Me will come to Me, and the one who comes to Me I will by no means cast out. —John 6:37

Bible In One Year: Ezekiel 20-21; James 5

Charlotte Elliott learned an important lesson about Jesus one sleepless night in 1834. She was an invalid, so when her family held a bazaar in Brighton, England, to raise money to build a school, she could only watch from afar.

That night she was overwhelmed by her helplessness and could not sleep. But her sadness turned to joy when she realized that God accepted her just as she was.

Her experience inspired these well-loved words: "Just as I am, without one plea but that Thy blood was shed for me, and that Thou bidd'st me come to Thee, O Lamb of God, I come! I come!" When she published the poem in The Invalid's Hymn Book, she included with it John 6:37.

Jesus always accepts people as they are. In John 6, the people had come from miles around to hear Jesus. When the crowd became hungry, He miraculously fed them with a boy's unselfish gift of five loaves and two fish. Then the Lord offered Himself as "the bread of life," promising that He would not turn away anyone who came to Him.

It's still true today. No one who comes to Jesus will be turned away. Come to Him with all your sin. He'll accept you just as you are. —Dave Egner

Just as I am, Thou wilt receive,
Wilt welcome, pardon, cleanse, relieve;
Because Thy promise I believe,
O Lamb of God, I come! I come! —Elliott

No one is too good or too bad to be saved.

NEW YORK POST: FACE UP TO BEAUTIFUL HOLIDAY FIXIN'S

By DANIELLE SCHLASS SALIMAN

November 23, 2004 -- THANKSGIVING is all about the food, from turkey to stuffing to sweet potato pie.

But while the foods at your holiday table may not necessarily be good for your waistline, they can work wonders for your complexion.

CRANBERRIES

WHAT THEY DO: The berries "have natural antioxidants, which reverse the free radicals caused by sun, smoke and the environment," says Dr. Adam Bodian, a dermatologist in Great Neck, L.I.

Plus, a study done in Tel Aviv found cranberries (or at least their derivatives) may help fight plaque and bacteria in your mouth.

FIND THEM IN:

For skin: Try Lumene Vitamin + Energy Cocktail ($17.99, at CVS stores) or June Jacobs Cranberry Pomegranate Moisture Masque ($54, [866] 586-3522 or www.ebodytreatments.com).

For teeth: Brush up with GoSMILE whitening toothpaste ($16 at Sephora stores or www.gosmile.com).
