.................................................................
The Poetry Branch has been in limbo since the prior hostess left FreeRepublic April 15th 2003. We've since learned that said hostess has lost her posting privilege. That being the case, and Jim Robinson having given his ok, I wanted to renew the thread.
FreeRepublic is blessed with many fine poets, and we look forward to seeing their poems posted on FR once again. There were many non-poet FReepers who visited the Poetry Branch for the camaraderie; we hope they will return.
I would like to invite everyone to visit and relax at Poetry and Potpourri. Hopefully you will renew old acquaintances for chatting, sharing jokes, telling stories, posting cartoons, etc. Everyone needs a place to escape from the everyday news, make Poetry and Potpourri that place.

November
The seasons went over so fast.
It`s November again.
I still remember the last...
the fog, the rain.
The silence, the peace...
all`s so quiet around.
I feel the cold wind, the breeze
as I walk over the hard ground.
Tight and grey mist came over us...
I`ve searched and I have never found...
any sun, any light.
I`m walking through the darkness, so tight.
But although this time is sometimes hard...
there`s always a way out,
like in the life..
. there`s always the power for a new start.
And when you take a walk
in the dusk or the dawn
you will realise
it`s always time for love...
also in snow and ice.

One of my fave bands...
Evanescence - Away from Me
I hold my breath as this life starts to take its toll
I hide behind a smile as this perfect plan unfolds
But oh, God, I feel I've been lied to
Lost all faith in the things I have achieved
And I
[CHORUS:]
I've woken now to find myself
In the shadows of all I have created
I'm longing to be lost in you
(away from this place I have made)
Won't you take me away from me
Crawling through this world as disease flows through my veins
I look into myself, but my own heart has been changed
I can't go on like this
I loathe all I've become
[Chorus]
Lost in a dying world I reach for something more
I have grown so weary of this lie I live
[Chorus]

I have to ditto what Billie has said. Our pets are part of our families, they think they are human. They keep us company, give us love, and keep our spirits up when we are down.

Got any updates on Sasso?
Just got word, my father's cat went toe to toe with another cat and either lost, or was too stupid to run.
He's got bites all over, and we have to try and keep a decidedly outdoor cat inside for a few days.
Need to try and outsmart a cat who wants out.
Will need luck.
Good luck with Sasso, and pray that he's a troop.

DS - Please tell your dad to take his cat to the vet and get him checked out soon. The kitty probably will need antibiotics to control infection and may need some stitches. The longer he waits, the worse it will be for the cat.

Sasso is home! He spent the weekend in the animal ICU. He has improved a little, but the vet neurologist thinks Sasso has some brain damage because he still can't control his legs very well or eat on his own. He's doing better, but he has a long, long way to go. We are still hopeful, but taking it one day at a time.
The vet says his brain may be able to re-wire itself and Sasso could possibly re-learn how to walk, eat and use litter box, etc, and if so he could live a fairly normal cat life. But, we should expect him to have some 'quirks' even if he does recover.
He's not eating or drinking on his own, so I'm hand feeding and we have to give him fluids subcutaneously because I can't get him to drink enough through a syringe. (I make hubby do that, because I freak out over needles.)
He knows when he has to potty though. This afternoon I was out of his room for a few minutes and when I came back he had crawled on his side about 6 feet and pooped in the corner. (No, no litter box there. ick!) I was so proud anyway! ;-)
One of the vets told us that in 7 years of practice and all during vet school - Sasso is the first feline that she has been able to resuscitate. Only about 3 percent of cats are able to come back after cardiac arrest. That makes Sasso our miracle kitty just to be alive at this point - and I believe God is still working miracles for my little fella. Thanks to everyone for your prayers for Sasso.

Evening everybody.
I know, I know.... better late than never. ;-)
The Windows of my Soul
Look deep into my open eyes,
see visions there unfold
For these are more than eyes, they are
the windows of my soul.
I pray that God be present in
my soul, and that He sow
the seeds of love, of hope and faith
to blossom there and grow.
Like bodies, souls need nourishment
to flourish and to thrive.
Food of the spirit will provide
their means to stay alive.
The healthy, living soul acts as
a guide for seeing good,
a way to choose what's right from wrong
in things not understood.
When God is present, He will lead
me toward my destined goal,
His image seen, reflecting through
the windows of my soul.

Hi Jen.
Glad to hear about Sasso. Although he needs time to recover, with your patience and dedication I have feeling he will recover sooner rather than later.

Hi Jen
Thanks for the Sasso update. I am sure he is going to continue to improve and get to the point where he can do for himself.
Years ago, I was leaving for work and our cat (a farm cat, but a pet) ran from under the car dragging herself from the waist down. We looked for her for a couple of days but had no luck. About 3 weeks later she came back to the house. She was limping and was a little different in personality. She later had a litter of kittens and they didn't make it. Her next litter, she wanted me sitting with her and she really put up a fuss but the kittens were fine. I don't think she had any problems after that. Hey .... she didn't have all these FReepers praying for her.
I feel confident that Sasso will continue to be a miracle kitty.

A Marine Wive's Prayer
Dear Lord,
Give me greatness of heart to see, the difference between duty and his love for me.
Give me the understanding so I may know, when duty calls he must go.
Give me a task to do each day, to fill the time when he is away.
And, Lord, when he must fly so high, watch over him nigh.
And, Lord, when he goes out to sea, bring him safely home to me.
And, Lord, when duty is in the field, please protect him and be his shield.
And, Lord, when he is in foriegn land, keep him safe in your loving hand.
And, Lord, when deployment is long, please stay with me and keep me strong!
