Tech billionaire Tom Draper wants to split California into three states

Tech billionaire Tom Draper filed a measure Friday to divide California into three states.

Draper says the "political representation of California's diverse population and economies has rendered the state nearly ungovernable."

"The citizens of the whole state would be better served by three smaller state governments while preserving the historical boundaries of the various counties, cities and towns," he argued in the proposed measure's statement of findings.

The billionaire spent more than $5 million in 2014 in a bid to split the state in six, according to the Sacramento Bee.

His current measure needs almost 600,000 signatures from valid voters to make it onto the ballot next fall.

Draper proposes naming the three states "California," "Northern California" and "Southern California."

The plan says, pending approval from the U.S. Congress, the three states would remain in the U.S., as opposed to the "Calexit" effort aiming for California's independence from the U.S.

Yep, splitting California into a Northern, Central, and Southern California would just result in 6 RAT Senators from there.

We need to separate inland California from coastal California, then we could get two new GOP Senate seats.

The only debate we should be having is whether the newly liberated inland California state (which would be named "Sierra") would have its capitol city at Bakersfield or Fresno.

The third one sounds competitive, but I gather more democrat Senators is the main point. Though this dude had a previous plan to make it into 6 states, maybe he’s just a kook.

I agree with his point that CA is ungovernable, but it’s because of the democrats and throngs of illegals and scumbags (”it’s diverse population). My solution is a 2 way split, R from D.

Auh, what do you think? How would you divide the bastard? Would you keep the OC and San Diego or give the rats/breakway Soviet Republic the entire coast (Save Del Norte County)?

If CA were to be divided three ways, it would be this way: Take the 55%’ers, meaning map all precincts in the state voting 55% or more for the Democrats in the past 2-3 elections (could go back to 2008) and string them together as much as possible and give the moonbats their special hive (Sacramento and L.A. could serve as joint capitals). The remaining precincts would then be divided into North and Southern states.

The Northern State could be that fabled “Jefferson” with a capital at Yreka.

The Southern State could be “Sierra” or “Reagania” with a capital at Barstow.

It is interesting that the CA bashers are so dimwitted that they do not realize that the owner and founder of Free Republic lives in California. Further, 2/3 of the counties in California are red. Get off your lazy asses and do some research.

Actually, five states would work -

Coastal - The coastal counties from Mendocino to SLO and inland to pick up Yolo and Sac.
Jefferson - Humbolt, Del Norte and all the counties north of Yolo and possibly parts of Oregon south of Lane county.
East - Inland counties from Nevada County south to Kern.
Hollywood - Santa Barbara, Ventura, LA and the southwest corner of San Berardino bordering LA County.
Southern - Orange, San Diego, Riverside, Imperial and that portion of San Bernardino worth having.

That would give us six conservative senators, four leftist senators and would shift the political balance further west in accordance with population patterns.

“I’d want the Philippines to become a state before this happens. They actually like the United States.”

I’m sure they do. Afterall, most of the state is on welfare.

I really like this idea of asking if the PI would like to be a State. If I still lived there I think I might object...but I would think about it quite seriously.

However, the advantage of statehood would be people like me wouldn’t be thought to be Filipinos or Filipinas even though our parents were (are) US citizens and born in the USA and the PI was a Territory at the time of our birth.

I dread renewing my drivers license this next go around. The people making decisions about who is or isn’t a citizens don’t understand the place we were born doesn’t matter as much a the citizenship of our parents, the literal time of our birth in Territories that later became states or independent countries, or that documents disappear in fires of war.

I cannot imagine being exported to the country of my birth when I am almost 80 yo and know no one in that country and have not even visited it since I was a child. Language? What a laugh. And all that potential turmoid. because we have stopped teaching history and civics and our young people are getting as ignorant of history and civics, etc., as bricks.

Hey, what about the State of Jefferson? I still want that even if it is not as wealthy as Silicone Valley. However, as soon as they get medical marijuana going properly and legally, it will be wealthy again.

Can’t get the Wife to leave, CA born and raised, and we have other Family obligations here.

I’m working on it though. LOL

Yep, I have the same problem. She doesn't want to leave family and friends. I keep telling her Reno, NV is only 3 hours from her friends.

Redding would be better population and resources-wise.

The people from the eastern slopes of the coastal ranges to the Sierras still have no say in governance. Make two states. California and Coastal California or better the Peoples Republic of Calexico.

California can EXIT and take their 50+ electoral votes with them.

Simple math that even a Demoncrat should be able to understand.
