This may be a little out there, and I am the first to admit that it is late, and I am a little tired, so please be kind. I want to ask any other freepers if they have ever had real supernatural experiences. I ask because I have been subjected to dozens of them. I sometimes think that I am living in a caricature of this world. I want to know if any others have gone through this.
First off, my originating experiences (ie. experienced by me directly) are pretty lame. But there have been a bunch of them. They are mostly confined to virtually impossible acts (such as passing my hand over and hitting random keys of a computer keyboard and entering the correct 10 character security code, or transmitting thoughts directly into my intended audience- to hilarious results). However, I have been fated to know other people with, frankly, extraordinary abilities.
One was my first wife. Her grandmother (who practiced Santeria and kept chicken feet in a glass of water under the bed to ward off evil spirits) always said that all she wanted was to see (my wife) get married. She made a 3,000 mile bus trip, went to our wedding, and was dead less than 12 hours after the wedding. But that is not the weird part. The weird part was that at the moment of my wife's grandmother's death, my wife, who was 400 miles away, woke up from a dead sleep (our wedding night) and started screaming and sobbing and carrying on in a language I did not know. I calmed her as best I could, and told her I would phone home in the morning (it was the middle of the night).
I called my father the next morning, and he reluctantly told me that the grandmother had passed the night before at the exact time my new wife woke up and went crazy.
Fast forward 20 years. My now ex-first wife called me up out of the blue (I hadn't spoken to her in at least 5 years at that point) and told me that my mom had just passed. She told me of a vision of hope and joy, but I was baffled by it all. The next morning I received calls from relatives that my mom in fact had died just when the ex told me she had.I have had several other acquaintances who also have demonstrated extraordinary abilities. I really ought to write a book about all of them.
Here is my question: I cannot be the only person who has experienced phenomena like this. From resurrections to deer inhabited by the spirits of the departed to jokes that transcend humor, surely other people have seen these things. So, i am asking for your stories. That we live in a supernatural world is, to me, undeniable.
My mother often told the story that she saw her older brother standing at the foot of her bed staring at her one night.
Creepy.
Except he had joined the Marines shortly after Pearl Harbor and the family had not seen him for a long time.
Several weeks later the family received the news that he had been killed on Iwo Jima on the very night my mother had the “dream” of him standing at the foot of her bed.
Good post.
One of the explanations also could be something about the nature of time. There could hypothetically be extremely rare weird things like rogue waves of the ocean, but that happen with time. Perhaps they are influenced by something to do with humans and their experiences, like strong emotion that occurs in death or stress.
That also doesn’t mean that there aren’t real instances of what is thought of as ‘supernatural phenomena.’ Personally I believe in miracles allowed and willed by God, and the actions of malevolent entities, demons.
But I have never experienced anything that I categorize as supernatural. Deja vu has happened many times, also probably unspecific weird coincidences, but nothing I have ever thought was important enough to remember.
Freegards
I have had some unusual experiences as have some close relatives.
So I will tell you two things, one scares me of the devils power and one of gods grace.
1) I worked Tue/Thur evenings as a lifeguard at our HS. Every evening when I came home I made a circuit of my very small town to ensure nothing was going on. The circuit always took me by an old cemetery from the 1800s. At the time I drove a ford escort... it was white. one night Thursday the 13th with a full moon as I drove by the cemetery I hit a black cat. I know I hit the cat because the car lifted under me twice as the tires went over the cat. I Stopped to see if I could ID the cat and notify the owner - remember a very small town. No cat. I checked the road, curbs, and even went into the ditch opposite the cemetery to see if it had crawled in. I refused to cross the cemetery fence. No cat. I looked a good 20 minutes scared to death by the end.
2) At college my senior year my family called to say GrandDad was in a bad way. I asked God to let me get home, I was due to leave the next morning, before he took him HOME. I was thinking of my Mom. I made the trip, and no sooner then I walked in the door the phone rang. My Gdad had passed, but I was there to comfort my mom.
Those are the big ones. Think as you will.
I have long suspected that you are correct. So what does a close observer like me to do?
BUMP! The soul sees speaks and understands many “invisible” things.
omg
Sometimes a part of me down in my “danger zone” rises, without any warning or control by myself, and gives me a real start!
I believe. I had a friend, Mary was her name. She worked for years to save up enough money to get an MG. She just had to have an MG. It actually got tiresome listening to her talk about getting an MG.
Eventually she saved enough money and got the car. The first week she had it she was in an accident. Took a few weeks, but it got fixed up and she was driving again. Two weeks later she had another accident, worse, but the car was fixable and she had it fixed.
I lost track of her for a couple months but eventually ran into a mutual friend and asked how Mary was doing. “Didn’t you know? She was driving that little MG she loved so much on the 91, slammed into the center divider, and was killed.”
It seems to me as if Mary was destined to die in that car. It took three tries.
California native? I've never heard anyone else use "the" before a highway number.
Yep, how dare I post stuff about what I am thinking instead of parroting some line of approved thought. Shame on me! Perhaps you should “lighten up Francis” (see? that’s an approved thought).
I know it sounds crazy but I had a cat named Nero (so called because she was black) that always was in good health and had a magnificent coat. Nero seemed immune to EVERYTHING and really loved life. Every night I let Nero out and he went to the local cemetery in our small town to look for mice among the gravestones. Every morning as I made my eggs and toast I would hear a familiar Meow at the front door, and I knew Nero was back.
One night I had a dream that Nero would die.
When I awoke I heard a pained meow... And there was Nero, who had crawled home with two shattered legs.
She died moments later - some jerk had run over my cat and I believe I had had a premonition to that effect.
Wait. What?
The night my Grandfather died, I woke up and found myself talking on the phone, to my grandfather. I was unaware he had died yet, or how I got out of bed to answer the phone. When I became aware that I was talking to my grandfather, no idea of what he had said, then my mother ‘s voice startled me asking why I had picked up the phone when it hadn’t even rang yet. She was calling from the hospital to tell us he had died, of a ruptured aorta. I was 14 or so at the time, and he was a fine gentleman of German birth, had immigrated here after WW1 started a electric motor and dynamo shop, then retired to farm organically. I helped him in the garden a lot and loved him.
Lol
Starting when I was about 5, I used to hear wind chimes all the time during the night. We lived in a remote area, no neighbors and no wind chimes on our property. I searched for a source outside for years and never found anything... I could hear them even when it was dead calm outside... but always when I was in bed at night with the windows open. Used to freak me out big time.
Also, on 3 occasions, I had my bed covers jerked away. Of course it would wake me up and the quilts would be on the other side of the room. It made it all the more creepy that I lived in an old farm house and my bedroom was the entire attic that had been finished. I hated it up there. After the last time it happened, I would always roll myself up in the blankets like a big burrito. I slept like that well into my 20's until my wife finally broke me of it after a few years of complaining.
When I was a teenager, some jokers told me to try this little trick that was supposed to be a "mind control" experiment. Basically, you made a little star shape out of paper and folded it in a sort-of pyramid shape. You then balanced that on a pin head and commenced to try to make it spin "with mind control". I tried it one night when my parents were gone (they would have gone off their rockers had they seen me doing something like that). I put my best effort into it and it started spinning real slow. While I was thinking to myself that I had probably breathed on it by accident and made it move, all the lights in the house went off and the TV turned on. As soon as I backed up to assess what was going on, the TV went off and the lights came back on. That's the first and last time I ever tempted something like that.
Call me nuts, but I believe in that stuff and I don't want anything to do with it
Check out post 25.
This is a perfectly acceptable vanity.
Some of the vanity posts over the years are ridiculous. A few years ago somebody posted a vanity about how to find extra large shoes for their kids.
There are vanities asking for recipes.
What about the constant barrage of prayer requests?
How about the weekly vanity from somebody asking what kind of gun to buy?
Constant vanities from people asking about something that can be found with a simple Google search.
US Navy Vet posts a weekly vanity about whatever insane thought happens to be in his weird mind.
There is nothing wrong with this vanity post.
LOL I’m gonna tell you bluntly it wasn’t your cat - if it’d only been his legs my car wouldn’t have lifted as much - i hit torso not just legs... I swear my car lifted 6 inches min
