When Winchester produced its famous 1873 lever-action rifles and carbines, Colt wasted no time in chambering its single-action Army revolver in Winchesters calibers from .44-40 down to .32-20. There are times when the quick handling and easy portability of a handgun is of paramount importance for self defense, but when faced with dire threats cowboys knew it was much better to have a repeating rifle.
A handgun and long arm in the same caliber was a winner on the American frontier. From a self-defense standpoint, todays shooters can find a practical, cost-effective, modern parallel to the 19th century Colt/Winchester pairing in Hi-Point carbines and pistols. The ‘aesthetics’ of the Hi-Points have changed quite a bit in the last 10-15 years.
Can I get one with a saddle stock?
:)
Is that hideous looking thing a 9mm?
Some rounds don’t really improve with a longer barrel. Put a .357 in there and you would have something.
I have a 9mm from Hi-Point, and while I don’t get to brag about being in the [insert brand name here] club. I hit my target, the gun cycles, I hit the target, the gun cycles, I hit the target, etc. I does what it’s supposed to do, and the price probably kept my wife from shooting me with it. Do wish take down for cleaning was easier.
Now, if I can get me used Glock, or a S&W M&P on the cheap... I’d be good with that too.
Just like a .357 from a 4inch barrel.
But it's true the .357 is more effective. After all, the 9mm is ONLY .355!
But they are great guns. No home should be without a HiPoint carbine for self defense.
I’m surprised that there hasn’t been a bunch of posts knocking hi point. Not everyone has a high dollar budget for firearms. But, better to have a hi point in hand than needing one and not having it.
For the money, they serve their purpose adequately.
Grandson has the pistol, it shoots and hits, over and over.
It’s designed to curdle DiFi’s liver every time she sees a picture of it.
Yea, for years their carbine was butt ugly.
I have shot a hi point and like it. It is one of the few semi autos which fit my hand perfectly.
I was really impressed with it. It does not seem to be ammo sensitive unlike some other semis.
Sure you could call that pretty close. You could also say that you have a carbine that is out performed by pistol.
Not going to outperform the sight radius, and you’re going to get much closer to .357 magnum performance if you use 9mm +P ammunition.
still butt ugly!
Been thinking about getting a rifle that shoots a pistol round...just for versatility and ease of not worrying about finding ammo.
Yeah, but one of them functioned flawlessly at Columbine HS.
They also work. And they're cheap. And they work. And they're accurate.
Did I mention that they work?
I have the Hi-Point 4095 Carbine in 40 S&W. It’s REALLY butt-ugly, but it works.
There’s also 15-round magazines available for it.
I wish there was some aftermarket de-uglifying merchandise available.
