General Stanley McChrystal is still making the rounds plugging his new book, as well as talking about any old issue of the day the media cares to toss his way. He sat down on Face the Nation this morning and hit a few of the standard questions on Afghanistan, gun control and Chuck Hagel, before Bob Schieffer decided to ask him whether or not it was time to bring back the draft. When asked about his thoughts on implementing a draft on CBS’s Face the Nation, General Stanley A. McChrystal said national service would have a positive impact because it would “bind people to their nation” and “pull people together in shared experiences.”

McChrystal: I personally believe that national service is important for the nation, and that’s having all young people serve a term of national service. Certainly not all military. But I believe those things do have two effects. One, those things that bind people to their nation are important, and another thing is that we’re also a nation that doesn’t get to know each other too well. Someone from one part of an inner city never meets another person from an upper class neighborhood. We need some things that pull people together in shared experience. We need to be ten years after the fact when they are meeting somewhere, ‘Where did you serve?’ begins a connection that allows them to move on because we are getting too fragmented in my view...

They figure if they bring back the draft nobody will ever support actually going to war ever again, and every day will be 1968 all over again.
Bad idea. One volunteer is preferred to three ‘pressed men.
Better yet, they will have hundreds of thousands of soulless liberal soldiers who will have no problem using tanks and bombers to crush the life out of citizens just wishing to be left alone.
The Draft will never be used again. Couldn’t work.
If they dared call my 20 year old daughter, they would catch all sorts of fresh hell from me. And millions of other normal dads like me.
And you KNOW they would have to draft women, if they drafted anyone at all.
He used a faulty syllogism. There is a limit on duck kills for breed preservation purposes. There is no limit on murderous drug infused criminals who wish to do harm to me and my family.
Time for McCrystal to write a biography of Pat Tillman with special emphasis on the facts surrounding his death and the coverup of those facts.
Charlie Rangel, Pete Stark, and John Murtha all wanted to bring back the draft.

First, they want to disarm Americans.
Then, they want to force “health care” upon us by a tax mandate.
Then, they want to arm Federal executive agencies with billions of rounds of hollowpoint ammunition.
Now, they want to bring back conscription...
Umm, folks... if there’s any doubt in your mind that Barack Hussein Obama wants to take over this nation by force of arms and create some sick socialist utopia, you need to have your head examined.
We are neck deep in shit at this point.
1) Bring down the quality of the military, because -- as you say -- volunteers tend to be better quality than people who'd rather not be there.
2) Bring down the political acceptability of war. If the soldiers are not there by choice than neither the voters nor the politicians will be eager to put them in harm's way.
If you want the country weak, bring back the draft. That's what this is about.
With the current scenario of a faggotized military and a vile communist tyrant as commander-in-chief, there’s no way in hell I’d ever enlist. Would I dodge a draft? My entire life I regarded draft-dodgers as the lowest of the low. So it’s not without a deeply jarring visceral reaction that I say I might very well indeed.
Ugh! No wonder the military is in the state it is in with such men leading it today.
Of course he’s pushing a draft. Obango’s gonna need his own army to quell those bitter clingers and McChrystal’s ready and willing to be his generalissimo.
Illegal aliens will be brought into the military via the DREAM Act or something like it to do just that. Illegals doing the gun confiscation that Americans won’t do.
I would only begin to approve of reinstatement of the draft if two conditions are met
1 No student deferments- you can go back to school when your service is done.
2. Sons and grandsons of Representatives, Senators, and Cabinet members above a certain level are first to be called
