While I was doing research for another blog post, I happened upon a lamestream media (LA Times) story from 2008 about the massive budget surplus that accumulated under Sarah Palin’s bountiful watch as governor of Alaska.
Try to imagine waking up one morning and reading a newspaper article in which the experts quoted had something like this to say about our nation’s federal budget:...

And to think that idiot RINO John McCain chose her as his running mate in the first place. He had no idea that he was getting an honest to goodness MAVERICK. He must be kicking himself to this very day. “Of all the people in all the towns in all of America, I had to pick a real maverick!”
He will never live it down at the country club. I bet they are blaming him for Boehner losing control of the rank-in-file during the budget debates.

I’m not really sure I understand his beef. She has never said that she plans to send energy rebate checks to the American people (although, given all the taxes the feds levy on oil, gasoline/diesel fuel, it doesn’t sound like a bad idea while we are waiting for Sarah to repeal the same :o)
I mean c’mon, the US Constitution has no provisions about natural resources like Alaska’s constitution. And besides, the blog quotes what she plans to do to stimulate the economy regarding energy:
“We need to get this economy moving again, and the real stimulus we’ve been waiting for is domestic energy development. We must reduce our dangerous dependence on foreign oil by responsibly developing natural resources here. This will provide good paying jobs, reduce our trade deficit, increase federal and state revenue, ensure environmental standards, and actually stimulate our economy without incurring any debt. That’s real stimulus!”
I don’t see anything in there about foisting Alaska’s constitution on America, do you?
How could any conservative be upset with words (which you can be sure Sarah will back up with concrete actions) like that?

Well, I don’t really have a blog. I have one old one that is pretty much defunct (haven’t posted in about a year), and it’s not even political in nature. Beyond that, not really much of a blogger.
I just think it’s sort of wrong for Free Republic to essentially force bloggers to give FR free content in the form of the blog authors’ own copyrighted material.
I was under the impression that the "Bloggers/Personal" forum was meant for this, and that when posted in the correct forum, it's ok to excerpt.
And Sarah Palin is just the person to break out a torch and a blade and start slashing and burning where no politician has dared to go before.
That is why she scares the daylights out of those who seek to destroy the US to bring on the New World Order. Unfortunately, some of them reside in her own party. But hey, she’s dealt with that before, just as she has with most of the problems we face. She is so obviously the one to lead us back to the light.
As I have told you before, this is Jim Robinson site and I will follow his guidelines. You have pinged me to 7 or so threads yesterday of excerpted content by bloggers. This is enough and I am asking you to stop pinging me.

In my opinion, you should gain some understanding of what is posted on Free Republic’s home page.

I don't see all that much difference, however, when bloggers are forced to post the full text of their articles instead of excerpting, even in a forum that is ostensible dedicated to blogs. Sure, one can argue that they have a choice to post at all, but their choice is essentially one of not publishing what they have to say at all, or else giving FR free content with no renumeration of any kind whatsoever to the blogger for their time and effort. The fact that most bloggers would not otherwise consent to having the full text of their posts put up on FR is shown in the fact that so many of them, unwittingly or not, excerpt.
By going ahead and posting their full posts, you are essentially stealing from them. That's still immoral, even though FR management has decided to define it as allowable.
The main difference is that large news organisations could make FR's finances extremely problematic if people kept posting their copy in full, while Joe Schmoe blogger typically cannot. Hence, since FR can get away with thieving blogger material, it does so, whereas a policy of excerpting from those who could successfully sue FR is followed.

Nope. Apparently, even when posted in the Blogger/Personal section, bloggers have to post the entire content of their post, giving FR essentially free content, lest the horrible crime of getting a few hits be committed.
Yeah - they’re complying with requests from big news organisations because they can get sued if they don’t.
Small-time bloggers? It’s okay to steal from them. They probably aren’t going to have the time or money to sue.
For someone with a Bible verse in his tagline, I can’t understand why you can’t recognise stealing and hypocrisy when they are right in front of your face.
It seems to me a happy middle ground would be for the full article to be posted along with a link requesting "Click through if you liked this article" or something along those lines. This would avoid the plague of direct blog-pimping and those articles that are worthwhile to people will generate traffic to the blog.

GGG - my point is simple - it's easy to balance a budget and have asurplus in Alaska when the state is, essentially a welfare recipient. Alaska gets $1.84 back from the Feds for every $1.00 of tax revenue that it collects. To use the Alaska success as a predictor of similar success in DC is dishonest.
Which is what Jim Robinson has said in the past.

I have no complaint if a good conservative blogger posts his own material to FR, not as an excerpt to drive hits and discussion back to his blog, but rather to impart useful information to OUR readers and to promote and join in on the discussion and conservative activism HERE on FR.
If a blogger can’t or refuses do that, and if he constantly complains or fights with our participants over it, then I’d just as soon he doesn’t post here. It’s not my job to make his content or his presentation or cooperation acceptable to our readers. That’s his job. And if he cannot do it or refuses to do it and continues posting brief excerpts only and obviously attempting to draw away our participants while loudly complaining about it, then I have no sympathy for his complaints and the more apt I am to ban his account and blog.

Er, well, it's not a Bible verse, but a spiritual principle, but the same criticism applies.
That’s fine - that’s just JimRob’s justification for taking free content from bloggers, but it does nothing to actually address the underlying moral problem with the policy.
