Can we please keep comments about the Mormon faith off the political discussion threads?
one man's opinion...

Posted on 05/24/2011 4:07:08 PM PDT by ken5050

As we enter the GOP primary season, I'm starting to notice more and more an annoying trend here in FR. It seems as though everytime there's an article, or someone posts a comment about Romney, either pro or con, it nearly always devolves into an extended, and acrimonious discussion about the Mormon faith. Those who defend it, and those who, for whatever reasons, can't abide it, both sides seem determined to wage an "end of times" batte on all the FR threads. Frankly, I'm tired of it, and just wish it would stop. I think that probably 99% of others here feel the same way.

While we’re at it, leave my Scientologists and my sister’s Jehovah’s Witnesses out of it, will ya? My twin brother’s into The Course of Miracles, so add that to the list, bigots!

I laid off mine almost 2 years ago and I have a job to go to tomorrow.

Ken, I think you’ve made your point. :)

It’s just too easy.

It would be interesting to see what would happen if a native American ran for office and gave everyone a chance to bash his religion of his ancestors.Just a passing thought.

Mormons consider Jesus to be the Savior and the Son of God. That is not Christian?

Well...

There IS this little item number eight...

The Articles of Faith
of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints

  1. We believe in God, the Eternal Father, and in His Son, Jesus Christ, and in the Holy Ghost.
  2. We believe that men will be punished for their own sins, and not for Adam's transgression.
  3. We believe that through the Atonement of Christ, all mankind may be saved, by obedience to the laws and ordinances of the Gospel.
  4. We believe that the first principles and ordinances of the Gospel are: first, Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ; second, Repentance; third, Baptism by immersion for the remission of sins; fourth, Laying on of hands for the gift of the Holy Ghost.
  5. We believe that a man must be called of God, by prophecy, and by the laying on of hands by those who are in authority, to preach the Gospel and administer in the ordinances thereof.
  6. We believe in the same organization that existed in the Primitive Church, namely, apostles, prophets, pastors, teachers, evangelists, and so forth.
  7. We believe in the gift of tongues, prophecy, revelation, visions, healing, interpretation of tongues, and so forth.
  8. We believe the Bible to be the word of God as far as it is translated correctly; we also believe the Book of Mormon to be the word of God.
  9. We believe all that God has revealed, all that He does now reveal, and we believe that He will yet reveal many great and important things pertaining to the Kingdom of God.
We believe in the literal gathering of Israel and in the restoration of the Ten Tribes; that Zion (the New Jerusalem) will be built upon the American continent; that Christ will reign personally upon the earth; and, that the earth will be renewed and receive its paradisiacal glory.
  10. We claim the privilege of worshiping Almighty God according to the dictates of our own conscience, and allow all men the same privilege, let them worship how, where, or what they may
  11. We believe in being subject to kings, presidents, rulers, and magistrates, in obeying, honoring, and sustaining the law.
  12. We believe in being honest, true, chaste, benevolent, virtuous, and in doing good to all men; indeed, we may say that we follow the admonition of Paul—We believe all things, we hope all things, we have endured many things, and hope to be able to endure all things. If there is anything virtuous, lovely, or of good report or praiseworthy, we seek after these things.

Joseph Smith

I personally believe discussion of a politician’s faith should be restricted to the Religion Forum, regardless of what faith they are.

And yet yer over HERE!

All of that was because of the election of JFK.

Has anyone asked how Mormons feel about the constitution? (Just a hint, we think it was inspired by God and should be followed to the letter, complete with the prohibition on establishing a state religion)

Oh really.

The Mormon Church, through its political organization, the Kingdom of God, says John J. Stewart in "Joseph Smith the Mormon Prophet", plans on gaining a political stronghold in the U.S. government. The goal is to “bring the United States Government under the rule of the priesthood.”

This is reiterated by John Heinerman and Anson Shupe:
For them the prophecy [of Daniel 2:31-45] says that the Mormon people and the resources of their corporate empire will be the prime movers in a millennial overthrow of the United States government.” (Heinerman and Shupe The Mormon Corporate Empire, p. 19)

Really believe in the constitution eh? One last item -

In the Political Manifesto on April 6, 1896, and as reported in the Deseret News:
It had always been understood that men holding high church positions should not accept political office without first obtaining the approval of ‘those who preside over them.’ In line with this policy, the signers of the manifesto agreed that before any ‘leading official’ of the church accepted a political position, or nomination for such a position, he should apply to the ‘proper authorities’ for permission.

I just thought of four who visit no other threads than anti-Mormon sites. No political activity at all.

Ya gonna share; or just allude?

Mormons consider Jesus to be the Savior and the Son of God. That is not Christian?
_____________________________________

Well the Mormons that go in the military have a long interview with their bishop first...

they are instructed by their bishops to refuse the label “Christian” on their dog tags and to insist on LDS for Latter Day Saints

Those orders come straight out of Salt Lake City...

Now if the Mormons were Christians they would acknowledge such on their dog tags

after all...what Christian wouldnt ???

Of course I’m assuming you know what I mean by dog tags and how important it is to have the correct religious affiliation included in the info...just in case

Since the Mormons refuse to be recognized as Christians, I doubt if a post in a thread will change the position of the mormon heiarchy..
