As we enter the GOP primary season, I'm starting to notice more and more an annoying trend here in FR. It seems as though everytime there's an article, or someone posts a comment about Romney, either pro or con, it nearly always devolves into an extended, and acrimonious discussion about the Mormon faith. Those who defend it, and those who, for whatever reasons, can't abide it, both sides seem determined to wage an "end of times" batte on all the FR threads. Frankly, I'm tired of it, and just wish it would stop. I think that probably 99% of others here feel the same way.
Can we declare a truce?
It's ruining FR, and I expect it's only going to get worse. Most here tend to ignore it, and just leave the thread, so you can argue sillyamongst yourselves. However, that means that often a serious. meaningful article is totally ignored and overlooked.
These secterian comments do NOT belong on the political discussion threads, else FR will soon resemble Ireland a decade ago, where politics AND religion were cojoined.
So what to do? As I mentioned, most here just ignore those comments, and/or leave the thread. I think we should be more proactive, and start hitting the ABUSE button, because the pattern and practice of doing the same thing over and over is abusing the privilege of posting on FR.
The mods will soon become aware of who's causing all these problems, and maybe it will be necessary for a few extended "time outs" for some.
If you think my comments are uncalled for or unfair, please explain why, or pull the thread. I just think it’s time to stop this before it gets much worse.
What if an athiest was running?
Or a muslim?
Or a scientologist?
I agree, let folks fight it out in the Religion Forum under the very watchful eye of the Religion Mod.
The acrimony on this topic is one of the less attractive things about FR.
I gotta agree. I get pretty tired of it being inserted into conversations that have nothing to do with religion.
I agree with you, however you’re pissing into the wind.
Re #3:
When that happens and they’re a major candidate we can cross that bridge.
Being neither for or against the Mormon faith I have to say that the people who discuss the pros and cons of it on FR have a perfect right to do so. Personally, I do not read Romney threads as I can’t stand the guy and would never vote for him, hence no interest in the threads.
Is this another thread defending Romney’s magic underwear?
Because I’m really tired of hearing about Romney’s magic underwear.
I think it’s dirty politics to discuss Romney’s magic underwear
and doing so serves only to dirty the topic of Romney’s magic underwear.
No more dirty magic underwear!
Thanks Ken! I’m Lutheran, but I agree with your comments.
Amen
What if Arnold Schwarzenegger really wanted to be a Mormon and was living his polygamist fantasy?
In honor of Bob Dylan's 70th birthday, make that, blowing in the wind. I predict a Romney purge. Just a matter of time.
Yeah, good luck. There are people on here who can think of nothing but bashing Mormons. They’re fanatics. I would think there are websites for that kind of silliness. But they come here and inflict their ignorance on those of us just wanting to discuss current affairs, politics, economics and the elections rather than going where that kind of bigotry is wanted, pathetically.
I believe that LDS is considered by management as an anti-Christian religion, making it fair game on all threads.
point
Excellent point - romney/huntsman's beliefs are part and parcel to the whole package. Their judgement in this matter SHOULD be considered - especially since the prophet Joseph Smith was as bad, if not worse, than the prophet Harold Camping - and a fundamental requirement for a temple mormon is to acknowledge that smith was THE true prophet.
Given the block voting for romney by mormons (>90% voted for romney in the primaries) - they viewed religion as a deciding factor - and not his rino background.
Why don’t you start a thread titled, “Why I disagree with the Mormons” or “Why I hate Joe Smith”? Then you can “speak your mind” till you’re blue in the face.
