Can we please keep comments about the Mormon faith off the political discussion threads?
one man's opinion...

Posted on 05/24/2011 4:07:08 PM PDT by ken5050

As we enter the GOP primary season, I'm starting to notice more and more an annoying trend here in FR. It seems as though everytime there's an article, or someone posts a comment about Romney, either pro or con, it nearly always devolves into an extended, and acrimonious discussion about the Mormon faith. Those who defend it, and those who, for whatever reasons, can't abide it, both sides seem determined to wage an "end of times" batte on all the FR threads. Frankly, I'm tired of it, and just wish it would stop. I think that probably 99% of others here feel the same way.

The bible thumpers invade the scientific threads as well.

Damn!

Where do they get off thinking that THEY have any right to speak??

Let's get RID of ALL of them!

Oh good gosh. Please, get help, quit subjecting everyone to your psychosis.

Or.... quit drinking (that I suspect is the problem).

If someone would criticize Sarah Palin because they found her Evangelical views wacky and bizarre, I think that would be considered off-limits by mgmt

Let's just TEST this hypothesis!

I think that folks who can ONLY have faith in a GOD of NOAH is a bit, shall we say, WACKY!!

I tend to agree. Bringing up Mormonism on a non-religion-related article is tiresome and pointless. Now, Mitt Romney is an evil, lying infanticide supporter, and those who promote him are culpable for their approval of such a man... but generally speaking, Mormons make good neighbors and they don’t get in my face. I’d be fine with a principled conservative Mormon candidate. Romney isn’t one.

Jesus told me so in answer to prayer to him.

So does romney listen to the same voices in his head, if so he is not stable enough to be president.

... the MSM will start exposing the stuff about the Mormon Church that is regularly put out here on FR,...

And the 'stuff' on FR, MOST damning, is found on OFFICIAL mormon websites!

“Does /did Romney mention that he is a practicing Mormon? Did he say or suggest that the faith is important to him, helps him, defines him?”

When asked, he answers that he is, so?

“If so then it’s 100% legitimate to discuss it. Maybe if he gets elected he will try to impose some of his views on all of us.”

So if you ask a candidate boxers or briefs and he answers it then becomes a legitimate basis for attacking them?

Has anyone asked how Mormons feel about the constitution? (Just a hint, we think it was inspired by God and should be followed to the letter, complete with the prohibition on establishing a state religion)

Personally, speaking as a Mormon, I would rather have a man who lives his religion to the hilt and takes his oath of office seriously, expecting to be judged in the hereafter for what he swore to on the bible than a Mormon who does not live his religion.

Again, IMHO, Politicians are, in general, the absolute worst examples of religious believers for whatever religion they profess to represent.

Lastly, IMHO, Religion is important in that the president should have one, and be as faithful to it as possible, I think it is better if it is a Christan religion because this nation was founded on Judeo-Christian principles, but I would not place a limitation on the presidency for that. That is for the people to decide.

With that said, the people have every right to decide not to vote for a Mormon candidate if they think his religion is not Christian (Even though we are in fact Christian) the people have the right to vote or not vote based on whatever they think is right, it's called freedom.

IMHO what should not be allowed on a forum that purports to be about Conservatism is a “which hunt” by an opponent of any religion or anyone trying to redefine any religion in a negative light. Conservatives are by definition pro-religion. The prohibition on attacking religions goes for anti-Catholics, anti-Baptists, anti-Mormons... all anti’s; In order to preserve the power of this forum anyone who spends all their time bashing any religion should be asked to leave.

Let me rephrase this - OFFICIAL mormon websites - to read - OFFICIAL mormon WRITINGS.

There is MUCH that MORMON, Inc. does NOT want seen that has been printed by their publishing house!

You are clearly anti-Christian,anti-God, and anti-FR.

This statement is a black lie.

Despicable.

I doubt you will find many, if any, who “can think of nothing but bashing Mormons”

I just thought of four who visit no other threads than anti-Mormon sites. No political activity at all.

That's a moot point, there are a lot of posters that post only on the Religion forum.

I think I get your drift though.

If someone is posting information that exposes Mormonism, they are bashing Mormons. That mistake happens all the time, I understand.

Posters personally attacking Mormons are warned and banned if it keeps up

Mormons personally attacking Christians are treated the same way.

FR is not "advertised" as a Mormon hating site.

No, and Mormon hating is not tolerated.

MormonISM hating is.

Just as hating Islam as a false belief system is also.

FR is a pro God site.

The One True God of the Bible.

Not a man that became a god as the Mormon god is. That is their teaching and belief.

“And in my experience, the mods deal with wacky posts from both sides of the argument fairly. “

Your experience is not recent.

JR stated that anyone supporting Mitt (who are often Mormons) would be banned.

JR also stated that He would not restrain the “bashers and then proceed to ban many long term Mormons from FR.

I survive because I was conspicuously not a mitt supporter in the last election campaign.

It isn’t a lie at all there is no other way to interpret his posts, but how nice of you to jump in with that personal attack.

I hope you aren’t an anti-Christian nut as well.

Are you accusing JR of banning people because they are Mormon?

... last I heard Mormons weren't doing any serious harm to mankind and provide lots of amusement.

Thanks for the lift, sir. My name's Tommy. Tommy Johnson.
How you doin', Tommy?
Say, I haven't seen a house out here for miles.
Why are you out in the middle of nowhere?
I had to be at that crossroads last midnight: Sell my soul to the devil.
Ain't it a small world, spiritually speakin'?
Pete and Delmar just been saved. I'm the only one still unaffiliated.
It's no laughin' matter.
What'd the devil give you for it?
Well, he taught me to play this here guitar real good.
Oh, son, for that you traded your everlasting soul?
Well, I wasn't usin' it.

Yup... no harm at all...

“Any candidate’s espousal of any false religious worldview, such as Mormonism, is a matter of concern and a legitimate topic for discussion.”

This could be fun.

Prove to my satisfaction that your religion is not a false religion... (crickets)

It can't be done. as long as the side that is opposed is judge jury and executioner, there will never be a fair debate. FR has chosen a side. It is not a fair place to debate anymore.

I see you have a lot of questions.

I suggest you study the Bible.

And go to the FR Religion Forum and ask your questions of the Chirstians there.

God created everything.

Including angels.

Satan was created as an angel.

(therefore he can not be the brother of Jesus as claimed by the LDS church)

He fell from Grace and took one third of the angels with him.

They chose to folow him instead of God.
