“Does /did Romney mention that he is a practicing Mormon? Did he say or suggest that the faith is important to him, helps him, defines him?”

When asked, he answers that he is, so?

“If so then it’s 100% legitimate to discuss it. Maybe if he gets elected he will try to impose some of his views on all of us.”

So if you ask a candidate boxers or briefs and he answers it then becomes a legitimate basis for attacking them?

Has anyone asked how Mormons feel about the constitution? (Just a hint, we think it was inspired by God and should be followed to the letter, complete with the prohibition on establishing a state religion)

Personally, speaking as a Mormon, I would rather have a man who lives his religion to the hilt and takes his oath of office seriously, expecting to be judged in the hereafter for what he swore to on the bible than a Mormon who does not live his religion.

Again, IMHO, Politicians are, in general, the absolute worst examples of religious believers for whatever religion they profess to represent.

Lastly, IMHO, Religion is important in that the president should have one, and be as faithful to it as possible, I think it is better if it is a Christan religion because this nation was founded on Judeo-Christian principles, but I would not place a limitation on the presidency for that. That is for the people to decide.

With that said, the people have every right to decide not to vote for a Mormon candidate if they think his religion is not Christian (Even though we are in fact Christian) the people have the right to vote or not vote based on whatever they think is right, it's called freedom.

IMHO what should not be allowed on a forum that purports to be about Conservatism is a “which hunt” by an opponent of any religion or anyone trying to redefine any religion in a negative light. Conservatives are by definition pro-religion. The prohibition on attacking religions goes for anti-Catholics, anti-Baptists, anti-Mormons... all anti’s; In order to preserve the power of this forum anyone who spends all their time bashing any religion should be asked to leave.

Exactly. In the last year of his life, Joseph Smith declared himself a candidate for president of the U.S. He was also acting mayor of Nauvoo, ordering a mob to destroy/censor a printing press that critiqued him.

And Brigham Young was territorial governor at the time he sent his leaders down to Southern Utah to become hostile vs. those people coming into Utah Territory. 'Twasn't very long after that that the Mormons massacred 140 innocent children & their parents in the southern part of the territory. And, of course, even though dozens & dozens & dozens & dozens of Mormons took part in the massacre, and hundreds more knew about it and covered it up to various extents, only one Mormon was ever prosecuted for it.

And then there was Mormon democrat B.H. Roberts. He was a Mormon general authority and elected to Congress in 1898. But he riled up 7 million+ people in the U.S. who signed 28 banners to NOT seat him in Congress...because he had taken a third simultaneous wife after the Mormons slowed down on polygamy with a "proceed with caution" edict from its "prophet" (1890).

So, we actually agree Delph!

But for some reason, your people went to treat B.H. Roberts as one of its best-ever Mormon theologians; and it went on to name its most prominent university after Brigham Young; and it doesn't remember Smith as the multiple criminal he was -- including smuggling weapons into jail...so I guess the rest of your people don't share your feeling there!

"IMHO what should not be allowed on a forum that purports to be about Conservatism is a “which hunt” "convert hunt" by an opponent proponent of any religion or anyone trying to redefine any religion Christianity in a negative light"...by teaching the fictional anti-Christian, polytheistic doctrine of mormonism.

To refresh your memory DU, THIS was the mormon declaration that was the tipping point for Jim Robinson. Joseph Smith: An Apostle of Jesus Christ See post #1459 by JR: "If you’re going to make false claims or comparisons about Christianity on this forum, do not expect NOT to be called on it."

You state: " The prohibition on attacking religions goes for anti-Catholics, anti-Baptists, anti-Mormons... all anti’s;"

I notice you don't include "attacking Christianity by claiming that the only way to salvation is through subjugating oneself to the dictates of fifteen old white men in Salt Lake City, and paying for the privilege of doing so in coerced tithing."

When those fifteen old men recall the 52,000 missionaries out spreading the lies about Christianity worldwide and stop spending millions every year on TV and radio advertising to spread those lies, you may have a leg to stand on in your attempt to censor this forum.

BTW, I suggest caution in calling for other FReepers to be "asked to leave".
