Contentions that the recently passed Obamacare law might be unconstitutional were met with disdain by House Judiciary Committee Chairman, Representative John Conyers (D-Mich).
According to Conyers, the government is empowered to do anything it deems necessary or useful under the good and plenty clause. The Founding Fathers were wise enough to realize they couldnt foresee the kinds of powers that would be needed in the future. So, they created language in that pretty much says we can do whatever we want if we think its for the benefit of the people. Forcing people to buy health insurance surely falls within this broad grant of authority.

lol.
That’s no clause!
I am pretty sure that would be the very definition of “over reaching”.

Satire grows tiresome when it is indistinguishable from the daily news.

John, the sad and inescapable truth is that these “Democrats” believe that the Constitution grants them a blank check to draw on the accounts of all Americans to serve whatever they define as the “General Welfare”. Freedom and property rights are now subordinate to enforced equality of outcome, as they were in France in the Year One. Wake me up when it’s Thermidor.

I’d love to hear him square that line of reasoning with the 10th amendment.
To: annieokie
It should be the "good and hard" clause (vide Mencken), anyway.
